Who goes to Nola and think's "Can't wait to try the Mediterranean food!"? Well neither did I, but I will from now on. The Kabob House in Metairie has an incredible assortment of different drinks, foods, and desserts if you need a little change of pace from fried oysters and gumbo. What is seriously more impressive is that the food here was just as good as any I've had in NYC. New Orleans is a food town, but I had no idea this style of food was something I could find here with such quality.
For the drinks I tried a soda that I had never heard of called "Vimto" that had black currants and other varieties of fruit with Hibiscus. I couldn't drink this all the time because it was very sweet, but it was excellent. The gentleman working the register also talked me into trying a yogurt drink. The best way for me to describe this is it was almost like liquid cottage cheese. The texture wasn't off-putting at all but I think this is one of those cultural things that you appreciate more if you grew up on it.
The Falafel was very good. Brown fried crust opens to bright green inside and the flavor was totally on point. These were maybe $1 or less a piece and totally worth it. Also came with a tasty dipping sauce but they're plenty good on their own.
The Chicken Shawarma over salad was really solid also. Nice crispy pieces from the outside of the spit but also still very tender and flavorful.
The Kofta Kabob was seasoned perfectly and was gone before I could even take a picture of it! I am usually not even a huge kofta fan but this was excellent.
The Beef Shawarma however was the best dish here, and it wasn't even close. The flavor and texture were as good or better than any I've ever had. Some pieces were more cooked than others and honestly, I'm not even sure which ones I preferred. This was served over hummus and that was also very good. Smooth and not grainy at all with excellent flavor all blended together.
Goes without saying but i'll say it anyway, The Kabob House in Metairie, Louisiana -...
Read moreI've been waiting for kabob house by Houma and veterans Blvd to open ever since they put up their sign. I finally got a chance to come eat here today and I was literally blown away by how delicious and the amount of food you get when ordering. The staff was extremely nice and tentative to all customers including myself. If you enjoy Mediterranean cuisine, then you definitely have to come try them out. I've eaten at many many Mediterranean restaurants as it is one of my favorite styles of food and kabob house is by far the best I've ever had. I actually ate everything and everything was phenomenal. I'm completely stuffed lol and I'm not a small guy so they are very generous with their portions. Their prices are very competitive with other similar restaurants. But if I'm being honest, if they were more expensive I'd still chose kabob house over all the rest. So if your hungry and would like the best Mediterranean food in metairie or anywhere for that matter, then stop reading this and get your friends, family or just come by yourself and enjoy it as much as I have. Thank you to anybody who took the time to read my review. I normally don't leave too many reviews but when you have food like this and you want it to stay around then you need to let everybody know what they are missing out on. I will definitely be eating here as much as possible. Thanks kabob house for making my Sunday a great day and for filling my stomach. You guys rock and I hope y'all are around for many many many years to come. Y'all may have to get a second or a bigger restaurant because I have a feeling you guys are gonna be extremely busy in the...
Read moreI love some kebab takeaway, and was severely disappointed on my last trip to Europe. Everything in Dublin was like this weird style they call Turkish where they serve mostly lettuce and other sides/fixings in a burrito sized wrap with plenty of what looks and tastes like a ranch sauce.
When I was leaving the shopping center across the street, I saw this place and decided to stop in. I had no plans for lunch, but figured what the heck. So I ordered a lamb kabob wrap with chips and a water. Boy was I surprised.
Food was cooked to order as this was the lamb kebab and not the spinning chicken or other meat. Chips were also fried to order, and came out piping hot. They've got a little texture on them, which is nice.
The kabob was actually a lamb kebab with a few little fixings sprinkled in and wrapped in a toasted bread served long because it is a freaking kebab and not a burrito. It really hit the spot. The lamb was cooked and flavored well, and the white sauce thingy came on the side and wasn't the thickness of mayo.
There are other places that I like in the area for their sit down service and platters, but this place was perfect for a quick lunch. The staff are super nice as well, and the place gives off the same family spot vibes as kebab shops you'd find anywhere else in the world. I'll come back here soon and try one of their...
