I greeted the cashier and she just stared. I usually would walk away but its hard to find solid boba/chè places in Louisiana. I picked Bambu bc I thought chain meant standard utility regardless of location.
In comparison to the ones in Houston, this one has less menu items including lack of shaved ice. I had a No. 1, No 4, passion fruit and taro tea. Quality is pretty much standard. I did notice, they don't pack to go like they do in Houston where they wrap utensils with some napkins as well as secure the bag properly and if you are getting larger order for more people than they see in front of them, they will ask if you want the ice separately or more ice.
As for southern hospitality, Texas is where it's at because service at this one is slow and rude. The guy who packed my order was courteous though.
Decor in the shop was modern and they were playing radio music. Any vietnamese influence is nonexistent here for some reason. Some advice for the area in front of the counter - if you put a few high stools facing the parking lot along with a 6 inch counter bevel, you can utilize thay space and waiting area much more effectively . The black steps in the front are a safety hazard- smooth it down as a slope so it is handicap accessible and safer for people to enter. The tables take too much room - sub out the rectangular four-chaired tables with some round ones to further utilize the small space more...
Read moreI went there for the pre opening with friends and family. I do not know the owners. I went with a friend who knows the owner. I like the mangonada a lot. I think it's the best smoothie in town but my husband and my kid do not like it. The price is comparable to other smothie places. I love the Bambu Halo Halo. I'm not sure I would pay over regular price $10 (with tip) for it though. I used to pay $3 for something similar to it and with everything is so pricey nowadays, I can see paying $5 may be $6 plus tip. But $9 plus tip is quite an expensive dessert. The macaroons are really good and reasonably prized. The green waffle is really good too but $5 is very expensive. Overall, I think it's a good place to hang out with friends but I'm not sure the "California price" is sustainable in New Orleans. I can see my friends in California may pay for something like this but I'm not sure my friends in New Orleans would be paying for this...
Read moreI’ve been a couple different Bambu in Houston, Arlington, Mississippi and I was excited that finally we had one in Metairie but so far this location is the worst. Long waiting time!!! 1st time was more than 30min, 2nd time was 20min, and most recent time was ridiculously 45min even though they weren’t that “busy” & “crowded”, there’s only 2 or 3 small orders before us and they all got their drinks. 45’ waiting for 4 cups of dessert is unbelievable!!! Other locations are busy and I usually order 10 cups at a time and it doesn’t take that long. I gave one star for the desserts (coconut milk is kind of plain and watery) and one more star for the cleanliness and convenient parking. I know they’re just newly open so I hope they can improve these bad experiences...
