It pains me to give any kind of negative reviews but I think it's important for establishments to receive the truth to help them run their restaurants. We ordered chicken flautas also known as taquitos and we're surprised that they were made out of flour tortillas instead of corn, the filling lacked any freshness and they came out with grill mark like impressions as if they were pressed onto a grill or griddle pan. If you're going to stray from the traditional at least let people know on the menu that they're made out of flour tortillas. Most people will expect them to be made out of corn tortillas. I ordered the salmon tacos which for a sort taco with corn tortillas you should always make them with two tortillas so they don't get soggy and fall apart, especially when they are filled with sauteed onions and peppers which didn't pair as well as a nice light and crunchy slaw would have. The black beans tasted like they were simply simmered in a pot of water without any flavor whatsoever, and the Mexican rice was dry and bland and tasted like cumin which I didn't expect or care for. The chips and salsa were fine except that the salsa's came in those small black condiment bowls normally use for ketchup or tartar sauce so you couldn't fit a chip in there unless you broke it into small pieces. The clam chowder was thin and watery and I didn't care for the flavor. This less than average meal ended up costing us a little more than $100.00 not including the tip which I reluctantly added 15%. Out of all the restaurants we ate at on our Bodega Bay vacation this was the only one that was a definite no. Hopefully this restaurant can improve in the future I wish them...
Read moreIn this new world of Covid 19, you never really know what to expect when you go somewhere new. Especially if it is a "tourist destination"...within easy driving from a large municipal area such as the San Francisco Bay area...on a weekend. Let me add one additional mental detail to the picture I've painted: "wall to wall people". And that's Bodega Bay, in July, 2020. No indoor restaurants, no hotel room vacancies, and NO parking!!
But it was still worth the drive. Beautiful blue sky, and ocean views... But if you have come for a good meal, that's almost harder to find than a parking space!
However you can find both a parking spot AND a great meal at La Bodeguita. Currently their menu is somewhat limited due to supply issues, but what they do offer is excellent. They have a small outdoor seating area (6 picnic tables which provides safe seating). All of the staff are masked and gloved, and they all take pains to keep everyone as safe as possible. The tables are washed down before a new customer sits down.
Now, as for the food, their cuisine is unique for the area. It's a mix of traditional Mexican, coastal seafood, and California accent. We had a traditional Mexican salad, and one of their specials which had crab, chicken, and other ingredients. And it was excellent!! Great flavor but without a lot of "heat", which is what I like!!
Everything they serve is "cooked to order", so nothing is "fast food", but it's all worth the wait. The restaurant is small, and is located immediately next to Hwy 1. Like most of the local businesses it's showing it's age, but its also well worth the wait. Especially during this...
Read moreWent to this place yesterday to get some tacos because the reviews seemed decent. While waiting to order, it became clear that the place doesn't care about the very serious worldwide pandemic happening right now.
Obviously, due to COVID, there is no dine-in at this restaurant. However, while we were deciding what to order, standing at the front door, we noticed a ton of people inside chatting and laughing without masks on. At least 20 people left the front door while we were standing there in shock.
I saw people coming out of the kitchen without masks on. It seemed like a bunch of people had just finished a dinner inside (I guess they know the owner?) and all of them came out without masks on. And a guy in a chef's jacket also came out with the people and he was also not wearing a mask.
This was very disconcerting to me because there's a worldwide pandemic which in particular has affected california and I got a sense that this establishment just didn't care that a bunch of maskless people were talking and laughing inside around where my food would be prepared.
It's downright dangerous and the owners need to rethink their COVID strategy and take this...
