Been going there since 1994. I went on Friday, 11/11/22. Prices have gone super high, since February of 2021 to 3 days ago, a big jump. Prawns and chips had increased to 18.95, same with scallops and chips. I asked for an order of prawns and chips and a combo of fish and scallops and chips. The price increase wouldn't have been a problem, except that the portions of the "fish" portion had shrunk significantly. There WERE 2 pieces, but, the pieces were VERY small. The actual fish inside the breading was about 1.5 inches wide x 3 inches long and only a half inch thick. It was so thin that a fork reduced it to shreds that were too small to pick up with the fork. There were 3 good sized scallops. The prawns and chips had a decent amount if prawns. The QUALITY of the fish was all fresh. Now, the CONS about ever eating there again, after 28 years of going there: The breading. Instead of the fish being delicately battered and fried to a thin, crispy, delightful puff around the fish, scallops or prawns . . .the batter was at least 1/4" thick, making the fish look like it was a decent size piece, but, it was not. The breading was golden on the outside, and thoruroughally gummy inside. I was able to scrape off uncooked batter. The batter TOTALLY MASKED the flavour of the seafood. You couldn't taste "scallop" or "prawn" or "fish" at all. The only thing you could taste was batter, uncooked batter, and, one overpowering ingredient that may just have been too much salt or baking soda or baking powder. As to "too much salt", both my husband and I were drinking water for the rest of the evening, because of the food making us feel very dry mouthed afterward. The fries were not as good as they always were, either. They, too, did not have a bright or fresh taste, instead, being rather limp and dried out. I was so surprised at this change in the food, especially because the seafood was fresh. That breading is a very unfortunate change in how things are prepared. I wouldn't mind paying the amount that we paid, but, the food has to be up to the pricing. Using tiny portions of fish for the fish and chips and coating it in a thick batter is deceitful and is not something you expect to experience when you go out for "fish and chips". The overall price for the 2 orders and one bottle of Izzy soda wasn't bad. $35.19. I I did give a tip up front when ordering, as always, which was the change from $40.00. So, I'm not saying it's unexpected to see such increased prices in today's economy, since last year. But, I'm not at all happy at the change in the product and I think that, unless it goes back to the way it was before, their customer list will change to being only tourists passing through. That probably won't affect their profits, but, if they care about their tradition of having the best fish and chips around, they should address the problem and fix the batter and the way the fries turn out. If people want to drive there and pay for good quality seafood that has been cooked in a manner to remove all taste of seafood, then, they will not be disappointed, as there was certainly zero seafood that could be tasted through this new, thick, golden exterior, uncooked on the interior,...
Read moreBeen hearing raves about this place and I'm hardly in thr Northbay or Bodega Bay. But everyone swears this place is " a must". It was my first time here.
Limited parking and limited seating. Got there close to 130pm and there was still a line of about 10 people in the cold weather.
Bbq oysters- I like bbq and love oysters but sadly this combo does not work for me. I'd probably order oysters with no bbq sauce.
Fish and chips- crispy, fresh and hot. Good.
Philly sandwich- this was amazingly the best thing I ate here! Nice hot sandwich with well portions of meat and cheese and flavors.
It was a good first time and feel I need to give it another try. Maybe the hype made me want to believe it was a lot better...
Read moreThis was our last stop of our Oregon Coast road trip and I was still craving basket foods like fish n chips or tenders n chips and a good last bowl of cowder. This is a nice family owned place with limited parking. I went with the crispy chicken sandwich and fries, bowl of clam chowder and a nice cold Corona with lime. The portions were very nice, at least IMO. The crispy chicken was a nice big piece in the sandwich with thick toasted buns and nice steak fries. The clam chowder was good, but it was no where close to the ones I had in Oregon though. I ate half the sandwich and was full already. Definitely recommend this place if you're stopping...
