First let me say I have driven by this place many many times but have not gone in , one of the reasons was and I have always known this,,if a restaurant has no cars in the parking lot the food is not good,,,its not always true but it does seem to work that way ,so that said,,,there were multiple cars in the front of the place,,,but going inside there were only 2 old people looking around as they ate.. So,,,I finally decided to eat there Friday at around 12.45 after going to the beach .. And I want to be fair and I understand bad reviews can cause loss of money and loss of customers .So we went in,,its nice on the inside,,,not bad though it was also warm or say not cold and after being out in the summer heat for a few hours I wanted to sit in a cold restaurant...The waitress came,,she was a pretty girl but did not act friendly and sitting down I felt almost not welcome due to not having a friendly greeting from the waitress and no smile,I did not see her smile at all the whole time and if she did I dont recall. When ordering drinks my girlfriend asked if they had lemons ,,the waitress rolled her eyes and said no they did not just limes,,so this was our first time there and starting badly.. I ordered chicken tacos with hard shells,,,,the children got fries and quesadillas,,,the girlfriend got a fajita wrap ..The food came out fairly fast,,,but when I got my tacos I saw the tacos were half full,,half full when I pay $2.50 each taco??A very tiny bit of cheese and tiny little bit of lettuce,,,I could not believe what I was just given ,,,so when the waitress came back I told her I am paying $5 for 2 tacos and they are not even half full?? She said she needed to ask her manager who apparently was the one who made the food,,,she took the tacos and came back with the tacos full of lettuce and cheese ... So,,,time to eat then,,,the children and girlfriend seemed to approve of what they got,,,,me,,,my taco shells we room temp ,,,the chicken meat was NOT HOT,,it was warm bordering on room temperature,,,but worst was the chicken meat was VERY salty,,,,I am sure other ingredients were used besides salt but from 30 years of restaurant cooking and managing to me it tasted like 80% salt and 20 % other ingredients ,,it was terrible and I began to worry it would put my blood pressure up so I would have to skip dinner,,,but I ate most of it but left about 30% of the last taco due to its horrible salt taste and being luke warm,,and I was hungry so not finishing my meal is very very rare ,I had had it and given up so I enjoyed my beer anyway... This meal ruined my day and cost $30 for 3 children and 2 adults for lunch,,,which I would say is expensive for what we had though if the food would have been good I would have been ok with it of course... I am amused this place has so many great reviews,,,Gloucester folks must be very easy to please??..I will never go back and if you enjoy good food I would tell you try...
Read moreWorst service I've had in a restaurant in years. We eat out at least a couple of times a week.
Yes it was Cinco De Mayo but they were not overworked in this restaurant by any stretch. There were 5 waitresses manning a 20 table restaurant and 4 of them were empty. Our waitress brought us our chips and salsa and ourvdrinks and never came to our yable again. She walked by our table at least 4 times where we had placed our closed menus on the side of the table - the universal signal that your customer is ready to order. She NEVER made eye contact with us and neither did any other of the wait staff. Even the owner. After 30 minutes, we left.
Now, lest you think I some sop who doesn't have a clue. I've worked as everything from a dish washer to bussing tables and waiting. I've worked in high class restaurants in San Francisco and lower class restaurants up and down the Bay Area.
We went to the cash register to pay for the beer and the person manning the cash register couldn't figure out the cost. I asked to see the owner and even complained to the owner. I got a deer in the headlights stare and didn't get an apology. AND in fact, the snotty, teenager working the cash registered told us we could "leave". Still no word or comment from the owner.
I'm sure the rest of the customers experienced better service than we got after our departure, but what WE received was not good customer service at all.
I had eaten at this restaurant a few years before the pandemic and wasn't impressed then. I figured I'd give them another shot. I'm still not impressed.
There are better options in Gloucester to get good Mexican Food and much better service. I wholeheartedly recommend both Juan's and...
Read moreI went here 3 times since moving here recently. The first time was decent enough.i ordered the giant burrito. I didn't expect much but figured my experience was more of a fluke as i got it to go.the second time I decided to sit in and while i got the special (california burrito) . It was about the same experience. The third time i got echildas to go and it was here all my failed hopes were confirmed. it simply wasnt good. They give you. A table spoon of rice, avacado lettuce and tomato thrown over the tasteless matter wrapped in tortillas. The salsa also very disappointing. If all you gotta do is juice tomatoes throw in onions and pepper and a bit of silantro than im a chef. You go to a place to have food cooked better than you can at home. The one good thing ill say is they're fast. But as another reviewer pointed out save your money and go to taco bell. Itll be just as quick, less expensive and more flavorful. For the price no meal has satisfied me. Shame really, with lack of competition in the area restaurants think they can get away with serving garbage.its unnacctable. I highly recommend "los paisas locos" in Newport news get their burrito santa fe. And you'll never wanna step food in this place again. I...
