SOFT OPENING REVIEW Interior: The interior of this spot is super cute. A mix of Latino/Korean decor. I think they're aiming for a pocha style vibe/late night bar spot.
Service: you can either sit down and have full service, or order at a kiosk to do take out. Service was nice and food came out fast!
FOOD: ~Note: their tacos come with toasted exteriors, so it's more like mini quesadillas/semi-hard taco. Tortillas are not soft.
~Carne Asada Taco (5/5): Our favorite one. The steak was so soft and flavored well, and the additional toppings made the flavors really balanced
~Spicy Pork Belly Taco (4.5/5): liked the flavor of the marinade for the pork belly, but for some, it may be a little too sweet. I like the other toppings that brought down the sweetness a little, but would need to get it all in one bite.
~Birria (3.8/5): The meat was so tender and juicy, but the flavor of the meat and consume wasn't as strong as I'd prefer for birria.
~Sweet Soy Sliced Ribeye Taco (4/5): again, this marinade was very very sweet, but if you got some of the pickled toppings in a bit, it helped. Meat was very tender.
~Crispy fish taco (2/5): I disliked the batter on this. It was soggy and the texture was stale/chewy. Like a bad tempura batter.
~Nacho fries (4/5): solid! The guac and pico were good (on the fresher side/not as acidic). I wish the distribution of the Guac and sour cream was more evenly spread out, but that's personal preference.
Overall, glad they opened this location so close to home! Much better experience than I had at their...
Read moreI was super excited to try this place as I heard a lot of buzz around it. The nacho fries are pretty bad, the fries are nothing special and they just randomly throw on their toppings. I wish the cheese was freshly melted on top or that they used queso. That was just like cheese wiz and it didn’t go well. The guac wasn’t good either definitely needs some flavor.
I’m a firm believer that any sit down dine in Mexican restaurant should offer free chips and salsa while I wait. Especially if service is going to take 35 mins +! I was never given any type of salsa at any point during the night, probably wouldn’t have been good anyways. I asked for chips to eat those extra toppings with my fries with but they said they would charge me and I said no thanks.
I ordered the Birria quesadilla. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong here, but shouldn’t that come with that delicious Birria dipping sauce? Nah they just used shredded beef, which was meh. I wanted that flavorful spicy quesadilla, but it was not and I I only got bad and older looking guac and sour cream, no salsa or Pico.
The only reason they aren’t a 1 star is because that tuna seaweed taco was FANTASTIC. It makes me want to go back and try all of their Asian fusion items only. It was Cinco De Mayo weekend so I wanted Mexican food, but if you just want Mexican food there are many better options than this. I will be back to try more of the Asian themed menu...
