Probably some of the most authentic Guatemalan food I've had outside of Guatemala.
The restaurant itself is kind of tucked away inside an unassuming shopping center and with a name like Tikal Bakery, you wouldn't really expect this place to offer anything but bread.
While they do have a running bakery, they also offer a wide selection of hispanic food options.
I ended up ordering steak fajitas which came out hot and sizzling with 3 tortillas, guacamole, mashed beans, lettuce, sour cream and sautéed peppers and onions.
The meat was seasoned deliciously and cooked very well, making it very flavorful.
Overall, the meal itself was absolutely delicious and pretty affordable. I believe I paid about $10-12 for mine which, in comparison with some of the other restaurants in the area, is pretty reasonable.
I will say, the restaurant feels a little sketchy. Not that there's anything wrong happening inside it, but it's a little dirty, dimly lit and just feels kind of run down. If you've ever been to an authentic restaurant in a hispanic country like Guatemala or Cuba, it feels very similar to that.
Our service was pretty good, though we were one of only three parties in the restaurant, so they weren't particularly busy. I'll also mention that our waiter didn't speak great English. This wasn't a problem and we were able to communicate everything we wanted without a problem, but things could get difficult if you needed to make more complicated edits to your order.
Other than that, I really enjoyed my experience here.
I have some friends from Guatemala and they say this is, without a doubt, the most authentic Guatemalan restaurant in the area and it's definitely worth...
Read moreThis is a 1 time visit kinda place. Stopped by on a whim for a very late lunch and lite dinner. The food was hit or miss. I bought a miloja (sweets) while waiting for my order it tasted fine. My boyfriend and I showed up around 5 p.m. on a Wednesday. The place was empty on both the bar and restaurant side. Scantily clad female servers some of them anyway, more tips if you were short shorts? 🤔
Most importantly look at the receipt !!!😳
Come to find out there are no free refills on coffee. Also, asked for sour ceam our waitress said they dont offer it. It was replaced with a tiny container of crema for $2.00. Tostada is salty and sopa de res my boyfriend said was watered down.
I understand times are tough but if you upcharge a 1st time customer don't expect them to return👎 Sneaky/shady serving practices never mentioned pay for every litlte item. Total for "lite" dinner $46.00 including tip, felt a little scammed but tipped...
Read moreAtmosphere seemed great and bar area looked really nice. Food was not that great, the eggs with chorizo that I ordered were bland and plantains not that enjoyable. The service was terrible, the middle aged cashier that took my order seemed to have a problem with me being there and had to wait 20-25 mins for my food. My food was ready way earlier and only got it because the barista noticed I was there for a long time and checked the orders that were ready on the counter. The cashier wasn’t bothering on checking the orders that were ready because she was close to the kitchen gossiping and...
