PLEASE READ!!!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Long story short we were charged an extra $40 for something we DID NOT received and we were bullied into paying for it. This establishment took advantage of two younger girls who have never been in this situation before and we should have called the police instead now that we know better. We have REPORTED this restaurant to the Better Business Bureau in hopes that they will never do this to anyone else. If you would like a full detailed description of what happened please read below: We dined at this restaurant at 12am on Saturday July 20th. We ordered only TWO orders of meat. We ordered one order of brisket then one order of pork belly. We had a male server and he brought out the first order and it was ONLY brisket, and we have picture proof. Then he later brought out two servings of BEANSPROUTS which we did not order. We did not eat the beansprouts and we wait an extra 20-30 mins for our server to bring us the pork belly. He never returned. We flagged down a different lady and asked her where was the pork belly we ordered and she said âOh, itâll be out in a secondâ so we waited and finally got our pork belly. After that we asked for the check and we saw that they charged us for a SECOND pork belly that we never received. We tried to tell the server but she argued that our first server gave us both but that wasnât true. We asked her to go get him and she told us heâs gone home for the day. We asked if they would please call him and they refused. Instead she got the manger involved who was no where near us the entire time we were there, and told her that we got something we clearly did not. THEN they went to check the camera and we asked to look at the camera too and that where they continued to gaslight us into seeing something that was not there. The camera was so so very far from our table you could not see what the servers were holding in their hands and when they tried to tell us that our server brought us both meats we told them NO thatâs not true that wasnât meat he brought us it was those beansprouts (which were a bright red color cause it was seasoned) and but continued to argue with us until I and my friend were so upset we just wanted to leave so we paid even though we should not have and on top of that we still tipped the second server whoâs fault this all was for lying to the manager. When we got home and talked to our parents we decided to write this review and report this business because is completely unacceptable and we donât want this to happen to...
Read moreAfter 2+ years of Honey Pigging, I finally write this review. My first trip to Honey Pig was in early 2012 and this place has had its ups and downs since then. At first, it was my go-to Korean BBQ joint due to its meat selections, lively atmosphere, and hours. Nowadays, I typically tell friends and coworkers more about Kogiya than Honey Pig, and I think that's because in the last 2+ years, Honey Pig has been rolling down a slippery slope.
The quality of meats was at first pretty decent but once 2013 came, I discovered that the quality diminished. It's gotten a little better in late 2014 but still not on par with Kogiya. Order thinly sliced beef brisket and thinly sliced pork belly (my favorites). Spicy pork belly is also pretty good. In the past, the soups (doenjang-jjigae and steamed egg) were included when you ordered your grilled meats. However, that's no longer the case which is disappointing seeing that most other Korean BBQ joints include both soups in your order. Also, the banchans have changed and not for the better. The portions are much smaller now and with less variety.
Honey Pig is pretty notorious for getting that Korean BBQ smell all on your clothes. My clothes used to stink of BBQ for days after visiting Honey Pig. To be quite frank, the only reason why I come to Honey Pig anymore is if there's a longer wait time or it's past closing time at Kogiya. Otherwise, Kogiya all the way.
Service here sways from somewhat competent to downright rude. Servers frequently speak in a terse, condescending tone and they're clearly trying to get you out ASAP so they can accommodate the next group. Also, if you're in a big group, they only split 4 credit cards so bring cash if you can to make things easier.
Another complaint: In the past, I've seen signs on their walls that say that even if you're above the legal age of drinking, if you have a vertical driver's license vice a horizontal one, they will refuse to serve you alcoholic drinks and will refuse to even LOOK at the license. Is that even legal? Can they do that? I don't know, but it seems ridiculous and downright lazy. The last time I went, I didn't see these signs so perhaps they changed their minds. Even so, it was absurd to suggest such a rule in the...
Read moreEdit: After seeing a few reviews complaining about the service, I thought I would elaborate a bit more on our experiences. Considering that we've eaten here more times than I could count throughout the years on different occasions at different times of the day, suffice to say we've had quite a few different servers over time. One recent visit our one year old child more or less trashed our table by spilling his cup of water and knocking a few plates of banchan to the floor. It was embarrassing and we were apologetic, but instead of getting a dirty look from our server, she said sweetly to our kid do not worry! She promptly replaced his water and gave us extra banchan without us asking. Other times our server would be accommodating and refill our dipping sauce preemptively, and would give us forks or extra banchan upon request. Sure, we've had servers who would seem aloof or bothered by something but they still get the job done. Honey Pig is meant to be a communal dining experience shared among friends, so usually it is understood that the servers are just there to serve and not stop around for idle chitchat, they mean business! This is not meant to disqualify other people's bad experiences, I just thought I would share our own experience to let everyone know that it is not normal to have a horrifying time here. Sure, everyone will have a different first impression and while it is true that the quality of service might make or break it, the food will make it worth your while. Simply one of the best Korean BBQ spots in the DC area. Open 24 hours, consistently great food and service, and worth every penny, no frills. Average cost per person would be around $15, about the same price as one plate of meat. The sides are great compliments and once in a while they will give a free hot bowl of soup free of charge. There is a good variety of meat to choose from, including intestines and octopus. I'd recommend the thinly sliced pork belly, beef brisket, and the bulgogi for a very...
