I gave this restaurant a try after my friend told me she comes here for brunch on the weekends and enjoys it. When I arrived at the restaurant and informed the host that I needed a table for three but was waiting for my friend and her kid to arrive, she told me she would get the table ready, but I could not sit until they arrived. My friend showed up about 15 minutes later. This was actually quite irritating for me because I had plans to sit and Order Something to drink while waiting for them to arrive. I would have understood if there was a line of people waiting, they were reservation only or if we were in a different location. This is Conyers, Georgia. This is not a Buckhead. This was a random Tuesday morning. It was just off puttin to have to stand awkwardly in the middle of the restaurant waiting for my friend to arrive. I suppose I could have stood outside, but it was quite chilly that morning, and I didn’t want to be out in the cold I also didn’t want to have to walk across the parking lot to my vehicle.
My friend eventually arrived, and we were seated. I looked at the menu and wanted salmon and grits only to find out that I would have to pay an additional $18.50 to swap out the catfish and grits for salmon and grits. I asked the waitress if that was correct as I could not understand why a meal priced at $17.50 for catfish and grits would cost an additional $18.50 to swap the catfish for salmon. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese. When my food arrived, the eggs had no cheese and were tasteless and wet. The grits had no flavor and were very loose. Same with the sauce and the shrimp I was quite disappointed with my meal and Informed the waitress. She gave me the menu again, and I decided to order a side of their potatoes and sausage patties, I asked if the patties could just be cooked on the grill instead of deep-fried which she said they could do for me however, when they arrived, they were indeed deep-fried and tasted gritty like they had been cooked in old dirty oil. The potatoes were so soggy like they had been heated up in the microwave. Overall, I was very disappointed and left without eating much.
My friend who comes often thought the food tasted different from the weekend. Perhaps they have a different chef during the week… either way I don’t think I will be back.
Also, I did not appreciate being charged a 15% gratuity automatically, especially when I was very disappointed with the...
Read moreI'll be honest, I don't have high expectations when I'm dining in Conyers. But let me tell you, Uncle Butch's is like an oasis in the middle of a desert. The hostess and waitress were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the 80's and 90s R&B music was nostalgic. The black and gold decoration theme was appealing, and the location is ideal for East Metro residents. Now to the food. We ordered French Toast Chicken and Waffles, Voodoo Wings, Seafood Fried Green Tomatoes, the Chicken and Egg Buttermilk Biscuit, and a side of bacon. Mercy. The portions were just right and everything was seasoned to perfection. Our order was hot and fresh, and came out in a timely manner. When I say our taste buds were singing, that would be an understatement! We noticed that a lot of the menu items were Cajun inspired, so I can only assume that the owners are from Louisiana. As a world traveler, I have tried many different cuisines, but nothing can beat the taste and soul from that region. Hands down, this is my new favorite brunch spot on the Eastside. Now for my pro tips. I noticed that some of the low reviews mentioned long wait times and poor service. To avoid that, go during the week if possible. Popular establishments with small spaces tend to get backlogged during peak times. Also, this is an alcohol-free establishment. If you just have to have a cocktail or mimosa, pre-game before you get there. Finally, go with a friend, significant other, or family. That way you can share your plates and sample all of the deliciousness this restaurant has to offer. I really hope the community supports Uncle Butch's wholeheartedly. They are an excellent establishment that is singlehandedly changing the culinary expectations in Conyers. I am here for it, and I wish them the best of luck on their...
Read moreMy girls and I decided to do a local brunch at an establishment we’ve haven’t been to before, so we chose Uncle Butch’s Chicken- N-Waffles. The atmosphere was nice, nice picture wall for photos (which we took) and service was overall pleasant. However, called ahead on a Friday and was told we could make a reservation for our 8 lady group, so we did. When arrived we had to wait because that was not the policy and apologized for being told so. Unfortunately, only 7 could attend, when seating was available they put us in the back next to the bathroom door and it was a bit tight. Thank goodness we were one woman down 😊. We did get complimentary starters for the inconvenience.
Food: Fried green tomatoes were soggy due to sauce that was on them with seafood, they should be crispy and tender. Should be an option to put sauce on the side. The beignets were more like heavily powdered square donuts instead of a lightly powdered flaky pastry The chicken was fried well, however too salty for me. All waffles were delicious, no complaints Seafood Omelette was delicious with biscuit Finished for dinner. Prices were fairly decent- average $15-$20 depending on what you order.
Overall wherever we go, we are going to enjoy ourselves. Since they are similar to other establishments in the area, some things you just need to...
