I have passed this place many times when visiting the Conyers area. This was my first time ordering a meal here. The front entrance was very unassuming, nothing too flashy. I entered the restaurant and was greeted warmly by the staff at the register. I noticed the inside of the restaurant was small and they did have some tables set up for dine in seating. I asked for a menu, but then I just asked if they had Massaman Curry. He confirmed that they did have it, so I just ordered the Masaman Curry with Chicken and took the upcharge for the accompanying brown rice. I thought the price of $16, really $18 with tip was pretty expensive. The staff member advised that the food would be ready in 15 mins. I set a timer on my phone, left and came back. It was ready in a little over 15 mins, but very close. I could feel the food was steaming hot through the bag. When I got home and opened the bag, it looked like they gave me a nice amount of food. Then I tasted it. Winner Winner Winner!!! The Massaman had a sweet curry, with a nice amount of chicken, potatoes and veggies. It was delicious! Even though the price was a little high, I will be going back when I am in the mood for some...
Read moretl;dr: Good first impression for a take-out joint. will give another chance. Would've rated the food 3.5 stars.
The kid who ran the counter was entirely likable. He talked up the cuisine in general and seemed informed about the menu. We bought Green Curry (with chicken), Mixed Seafood Curry, and Fried Rice (with pork). We chose the highest heat setting below "Thai Hot" for all three dishes. On a zero to ten scale, I rate the average heat level about 5. Not sure what spice agent they employ to give the heat, but it doesn't build, if you eat faster; it's a very consistent level of heat.
The green curry was a little too sweet for my taste preferences, which made it exactly right for my bride. The seafood dish was a little bland and not very balanced in the mix of "fishes" (squid rings were nicely, firmly chewy - not rubbery). The fried rice was okay - good amount of pork.
Overall, I rate the experience as: service - 9, food - 7. I'll visit again more widely to explore the menu but only when I specifically want take-out (they have a small number of booths for eat-in).
Oh, almost forgot...next time we'll see what they mean...
Read moreOne of my absolute favorite places to eat! Thai in the box is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that is a local treasure. Paul, the owner, is a fantastic gentleman and excellent chef. My personal favorite dish would be a tie between the Pad Thai or Pad Kee Mow.
Service has always been great and on a couple occasions we were even given desert samples to try!
The only thing I would recommend you be careful about is the temperature of the food. Without fail, I've had to let everything cool off before eating. The spring rolls you have to be extra careful with. They may not seem too hot on the outside, but the inside is really hot.
As far as price goes, everything is reasonably priced. Lunch specials come with a spring roll or soup.
The only thing I've not gotten a chance to experience is their carry out. Every time I'm there, it seems like there are quite a few people who order carry out. I cannot speak from experience as to that aspect. But, if what I get on the plate is the same in a box, I'm sure it's excellent. Maybe I've been doing it backwards the whole time, it is called "Thai...
