I did make a special order for potato salad for an event. I was there at 1145. They're supposedly open at 1100. There was another lady that was there and left too. You cannot expect to pickup special orders, or for them to open up on time.
The reason for the star rating, the telephone is never picked up, or answered by the staff, and none of the 3 locations have catering sized portions available. I had to personally go in and talk, then had to go back to update an order; again they didn't answer their phone. But then, they (2 employees) are busy with walkin orders, BBQ and kitchen duties. Otherwise, the rating would change. -4 issues.
I am unable to get through via the telephone
I have a surprise event and needed some tryout some side dishes.
I went to pick up my highly anticipated reserved baked beans. I and another lady who pulled up before me were surprised to see that it was closed. According to the sign, it was to open up at 1100am; it was now 1145am.
It was Mr Clay, who's extremely professional brought me my purchases who I enjoying meeting, his demeanor brought me back; the sides I was interested in and sampled them in order to make a possible puck up date. Due to costs, and no larger orders, I had to choose 8-10 smaller side of 1 item ($$$$$$).
I tried out the baked beans, they were fabulous flavor, and they had the right amount of smoke.
I tried the potato salad, great flavor, not overpowered by vinegar like some other establishments. Due to the amount I need, it's way too much $$$$$ for the smaller individual portions. I had to go to different BBQ in Killeen who sells larger sized portions (buckets, ½ buckets, ...), who also has fantastic potato salad (that other place has no beans).
I out of curiosity I tried the pinto beans with (not smoked, regular) Brisket bits, they were OK; but too bland for me. I wonder what the beans would taste like if shredded Smoked Brisket, or shredded smoked ribs were used instead of plain Brisket meat, the smoke would enhance the beans flavor naturally. Hummm, I gotta try that out for myself...
Did not try the collared greens, not a fan. I am a Mustard Greens person, did not try.
I did sample the Brisket it was really good; but it came with some sauce which masked its true flavor(s); but, it was a surprise sample, so I am unable to comment on the meat only. With the the sauce (sweet, with a hint of tangy) was very good. (I had already ordered my fabulous, whole Smoked Brisket (paid by by the pound) from my favorite place in Temple for my event).
I NEVER put sauce on my meats, because when I do my reviews, I am only there to check out the flavor of the meat(s). My "Rule of Thumb," good BBQ does not require, never needs any kind of sauce... sauce is for hiding mistakes... if you disagree, ask the BBQ competition judges.
I am going to get Brisket (without sauce) next week to give it a proper review. That was a bust, it didn't open, had to leave, never went back.
The only draw back to Bobby B's sides, you can only purchase 1 single, serving sized container per sale, so mutiple containers have to be purchased (that's 8-10) containers per side.. for an event; they don't do events or gatherings, at least that's what I was told... no worries, there's always better bbq out there that does large orders, and the ones I know are the best in Texas.
Again, You are not able to order a larger side purchase such as quart, ½ gallon, or gallon at a time. Too bad, but I assume they don't do large parties off site, or any kind of catering like the other BBQ establishments.
And they do not sell meats by the pound. So, more than likely only in service available. And definitely you CANNOT call to order your food for pick up.... drive... order... wait... actually see the meats being cut like other reputable BBQ places (not afraid to hide their food from a customers eyes) ... then go...
Read moreIf you are looking for fine dining, Bobby B's Southern Cooking and More does not fit the bill. However, do not let this detour you from stopping in for a visit. Here, you will find genuine Southern hospitality and comfort food. It does not get any more down home than this.
What I love about Bobby B's is the moment you walk in, it's as if you stepped back to the days of experiencing a small-town family diner filled with family and friends, and a gracious owner, who cares deeply about his customers, greets you in the most welcoming way. That alone is a priceless experience. They offer a home-cooked meal prepared from scratch that far surpasses any fast-food restaurant.
Here, you will not find fine tableware and trendy decor, but I loved that! Bobby B's is as unique as it gets and offers a dining experience from long ago, an experience difficult to find today. The establishment may be in an older building, but that character adds to your dining experience.
You place your order for your meal and drinks at the counter, and when it's ready, it's delivered promptly and piping-hot to your table.
For drinks, you have a variety of canned soft drinks to choose from: water, lemonade, and juice/Kool-Aid.
I ordered the fried shrimp for my main entrée, which comes with two sides. For my sides, I had the potato salad and Mac and cheese.
The potato salad tastes freshly homemade as if it just came from grandma's kitchen. It's full of creaminess, and it reminded me of a recipe my grandmother used to make. It was the ultimate comfort food. Each bite took me back to a time I missed.
The Mac and cheese was tasty, creamy, and full of cheesy deliciousness.
The fried shrimp was seasoned exceptionally and cooked to perfection. They do not offer a house sauce with the shrimp, but they seasoned and prepared it so perfectly that I enjoyed every bite. Truly, some amazing shrimp.
My husband had the smothered pork chops with fried okra, corn bread, and collard greens. He enjoyed his meal and thought the pork chop and the gravy were exceptional. I sampled his okra and collard greens, and I enjoyed every bite, especially the okra.
We sat for well over an hour at the restaurant, visiting and enjoying our home-cooked meal. We had an experience at Bobby B's that will always stay with us. And as we left, the owner walked us out, thanked us, and wished us a good night. It truly doesn't get any better than that.
You will have a personable and memorable experience at Bobby B’s. It’s not fine dining, it’s not a spotless and quaint restaurant, but even without all that, it’s something else, something more. They will not serve your meal on fancy plates, and your canned soda may not be icy-cold, but you won’t care. On a hot Texas day, it’s a dining experience full of comfort food and kind people, people who care and make up our communities. Bobby B’s offers something we need to get back to in a time where people have lost the true meaning of relationships and experiences in our...
Read moreThe food is always amazing, but the customer service has gone down the last 2 times I’ve gone there, so I don’t go there anymore. I called the orders in because I wanted to pick up food on my way to work for myself and my coworkers. On arrival I introduced myself and paid for my food. I then asked if drinks came with my order, he said, “You get one drink.” I’m confused because I almost always order the same thing-2 rice/neck-bone plates and 2 fried pork chop sandwiches. So which 1 plate comes with the drink? He seems to get annoyed when I ask? Then he always has to retract and say your 2 neckbone plates come with drinks. Okay so I get 2 drinks. The last time that I called in my order (the same exact order) the same thing happened. He tells me you get 1 drink. I paid for my food and put it in my car, but something told me to check my bags before I drive off. I had my 2 fried pork chop sandwiches in one bag, but the other bag had only 1 neckbone plate. I took that bag back inside the restaurant and showed him that I only had 1 neckbone plate when I had ordered and paid for 2 plates. He then checked the paper that he had written the phone order on and he admitted that he himself took my phone order. He wrote down 2 neckbone plates and 2 fried pork chop sandwiches, but he said,”when he called it back to the cooks, he said 1 neckbone plate and 2 pork chop sandwiches.” So he had the cook make my other plate. I should’ve asked for a refund on the missing plate because waiting for it to be made, made me late for work that day. Also, while I was waiting I decided to get a couple of canned H‑E‑B sodas. OMG!!! He charged me $3.00 for 2 H‑E‑B canned sodas. When I asked how much the sodas were he said $1.50 each. I occasionally purchase these same exact sodas for family outings, so I know that HEB sells them (2) 6-packs for $5.00, so $1.50 per can is highway robbery. I knew then that was my last purchase EVER at Bobby B’s in Copperas Cove. My coworker, who lives in Temple,TX, and I take turns bringing lunch. She recently asked me for Bobby B’s. I told her I don’t go there anymore and I...
