I can’t remember if I’ve reviewed this place before or not so I’m starting again.
Food: My view of this restaurant has changed a bit since the first few times eating there. If you order correctly this place has some great food. However for the enormous size of the menu they only have a handful of things worth ordering. The BBQ is EXTREMELY good and I would recommend it over any chain that I’ve tried so far. The breakfast is always good. The burgers are great! … when they’re good, but they can be hit or miss. The catfish is good. Outside of that most of what I’ve tried has either been bland or just bad. I wish they would pair down the menu and do a few things great rather than a huge amount of things mediocrely. Also, they need a soda fountain.
Service: I have never once had a bad experience with the staff even when my food has issues. They are always service with a smile you can see even under a mask. In that vein; today a wonderful young man, a busser named Mitchell, didn’t even think twice about returning some pretty valuable items to us after we had walked outside and hadn’t noticed them missing. I commend him for being so honest and polite.
Prices: For the most part the prices are great though some things, like a weirdly expensive waffle, are a bit more but nothing is excessive. Paying $1.25 for each can of soda kinda sucks though.
Decor: Dated. Would love to see a remodel. Nice enough though, has a hometown restaurant sort of feel.
TL;DR While I do like this place I’d also like to see some changes to the food, menu and decor. Service and prices are solid. Would recommend w/ directions and recommendations on...
Read moreWe have been here 3 times, the first 2 times were great. However, we had our 3rd visit tonight and it was absolutely terrible. We sat down and no one acknowledged us for at least 20 minutes, honestly closer to 25 or 30 minutes. Another waitress that wasn’t ours took our drink order and brought them. We finally saw our waitress and ordered and we didn’t see her until 45 minutes later when our food was finally done. The whole reason we went out was for the “special” strawberry pancakes that my daughter has gotten before. When she’s gotten them the past 2 times they look great and are all done up with whipped cream and strawberries. This time they were sad and everything was on the side or we had to ask for it. All in all food was alright, the biscuits and gravy have no seasoning on them and are very bland. Very, very disappointed. There were a lot of angry customers tonight. A group that was at the restaurant before us still did not have their food as we were leaving an hour and a half later. From what I noticed is that what I assume are the regulars were served way before anyone else. A family that sat down after us and were served 15 minutes after they sat down, they had left already by the time we got our food. The family seemed to know some of the employees. Just seems a little wrong to favor people. I know that’s an assumption but I’m not stupid and can put two and two together. I had nothing better to do than keep track of time and observe people I guess.
I really wanted to support this small business especially during the pandemic and after the snowstorm, but sadly I wont be...
Read moreMy first meal at Lil Tex was for Breakfast, and I have to say the breakfast is pretty good.
Because the breakfast was so good, we decided to try it again for dinner. The parking lot is always packed, so we thought that it was a good indication that the food was some of the best in town...sadly, this didn't prove to be true. I have to say we were very disappointed. First of all, they serve family/country style food, BBQ, and Mexican food. The old adage, Jack of all Trades, but master of none could certainly apply here. My husband had the BBQ and I had fried catfish. The BBQ, especially the sausage, was awful. The sausage was mushy and not of great quality. The fried catfish tasted like old cooking oil and was not very good either. But what was the worst were the green beans. They were so mushy and overcooked that you could have fed them to a toothless newborn without mashing them first. To say the least, we were not impressed at all. My husband only ate a bit of the sausage, I ate about 1/2 of a piece of catfish and one bite of the green beans. Neither my husband or I are particularly picky eaters. Normally, we will eat whatever is put in front of us, especially if we're buying it. But this food was more than we could take.
Go for the breakfast, which really is good, but for lunch or dinner, I'd go anywhere else. We just tried Ches's down the road on 190, and it was MUCH better for...
