Read moreJust came home from having lunch at this establishment. I believe it is only their soft open but seriously- what a treasure this place is! Want top notch, reasonably priced Pakistani fare? Check it out.
I should have taken photos of the decor. Especially for a family business, the restaurant is just gorgeous. They've taken time to create an atmosphere that is somehow both up-scale and homey. When I return, I will take photos and post them here.
The service staff is very enthusiastic and also diverse...Quite a few young folk on staff which is always nice to see. The owner is extremely charismatic and clearly proud of his establishment. He was very knowledgeable and willing to take the time to explain his cuisine to my in-laws who aren't as savvy with this type of food.
We ordered two types of naan. Garlic coriander which was personally my favorite and also a sesame seed naan... Also quite delicious. We ordered the chicken korma, chicken Ginger masala and a full size lahori chicken karahi (I ended with chai because... Of course! Although I do wish I had room for dessert... Next time!) . All had such distinct flavor profiles which already sets this restaurant side from most run of the mill Indian places. The korma had a great spiciness and creaminess, but not from excess use of heavy cream that is standard most places. The Ginger masala gravvy was also delicious. They served it with fresh ginger slices right in the gravvy. You can tell that when they say everything is made fresh- they truly mean it.
Now the karahi. Buckle up. The lahori karahi was Divine. More of a drier gravvy but packed with intense flavor. I would order it again with mutton, for sure. The owner mentioned that upwards of 30 spices went into making the dish- we believe him. By the way, you can watch your food being prepared front the dining area. They set up a large window into the kitchen... Such a nice touch.
My adopted mom is Punjabi. She's from Maharashtra- Nagpur to be precise. Anytime she cooks she always starts with oil/ghee and whole spices. Anyone who knows anything about this cuisine knows that the secret is the foundation of well tempered spices. This place understands that and doesn't try to rush the process or cover it up with cream.
I will be a life long patron. As long as Tarka keeps the doors open, my family will be...

Apart from the main courses, the appetizers and side dishes were equally outstanding. The assortment of chutneys and dips added an extra layer of taste to the meal, and the naan bread was soft and fluffy, the perfect accompaniment to the rich and savory curries.
To top it all off, the desserts were an absolute delight. The sweetness was just right, and they served as a perfect conclusion to an already fantastic meal.
