Good ice cream, but ridiculous price.
I visited here with my nephews and 3 standard milk shakes came out to $40 after tax! I mean... they looked impressive and all in the big glass cup, and they throw the kitchen sink at it... but I wouldn't do this again at this price. Also, they don't have a reasonable option to get a shake to go. They'll charge an extra few bucks and you keep the glass. Regardless of that, though, the way they attach stuff to the outside of the glass makes this an impossible treat to eat on-the-go.
I get the idea they are going for in that no one else is putting a brownie or a piece of cake on top of a milkshake, but honestly the flavors aren't any better than a basic chocolate shake with a bunch of M&Ms, whipped cream, and caramel sauce on it. It's just presented in an extravagant way.
While this is definitely a place to go and enjoy once just for the novelty of it all, I won't go back due to the high cost. Right before our visit to Sweetie's, I spent less money on a GREAT complete sit-down meal than I did on a single milkshake here.
I think they are going to need to offer some more traditional options at reasonable prices to maintain a...
Read moreThis shop looks so neat and inviting. My family and I came in on vacation and where very excited to give it a try. Everyone we know raved on how great it is. We took the family to grab some ice cream after dinner. It was 8:40 pm and they close at 9:00. When we walked in we got a frustrated look from the staff. Immediately they said, “what do you all want?”. Then when we said give a quick second to make a decision the workers stated “Well we are about to close and you can only have scoops of ice cream and only the ones on the board!” Which was only 4 flavors. I was very frustrated and almost walked out. There was 20 minutes until closing and I feel that is very poor customer service! If I was the owner I would make sure my employees understood that there is no cleaning up until you physically close. Then to add a cherry on top they handed us our cups of ice cream with frustration and when I said thank you the reply we received was, “Ya!” and an eye roll with a sigh!! Make sure you go an hour or more prior to...
Read moreOftentimes, I reminisce my childhood, so I'll drive around Corbin, my childhood hometown to try and mentally relive some version of what that was. One of the things I remember most is my step-dad seemed to have a nac for finding hole-in-the-wall places to eat that were pretty were pretty great. His favorite was a Diner, had that small town feel. They had ice cream, several flavors to choose from. That regular ice cream cones and comment and then they had waffle cones, my favorite was always the waffle cone. I wish I had remembered the name of that place, but I was just an oblivious child living in the moment. My stepdad also had a knack for finding random ice cream parlors. Back in the 90s, which was pretty much when all of this took place, vanilla ice cream cones seem to have had a flavor you don't seem to find today. Anyway, this little place, Sweeties Ice Cream reminded me of a time way back when, when simplicity was a beautiful thing, and being outside was more more common. It reminded me of a times that...
