Waffle House — Restaurant in Cordele

I travel for my job. And I stay in the area at least 2x a month. Today’s service was horrible. So when I walked in there were 2 men seated and eating. 2 men waiting on take out orders and a father with his 3 kids eating. So not busy at all. Nobody acknowledges me and my son when we walked in. We sat down at a table in the corner and the table still hadn’t been cleaned, nor was the counter seating next to me. The counter seating was still dirty when I left. Disgusting. Our server Alexis was nice but when you asked her for anything like sweet and low, creamer, ketchup, it was an inconvenience. When we got the food, the eggs and bacon were so undercooked I couldn’t eat them. And I didn’t want to inconvenience my waitress anymore then I felt I already had so I just ate my toast and cold waffles with my coffee and my son ate a few bites of his breakfast and we left. Very disappointed today.

On a plus side. Ms. Becky told Alexis to clean her area while an other employee was sitting at the counter seating organizing her receipts, and Alexis rolled her eyes, stuck out her tongue.

The wait staff were very inattentive. My husband ordered coffee and was told that another wait staff member had never turned the heater on under the carafe and that the coffee was cold. She stated she would make fresh coffee and then never served a single cup during our meal. I finally became upset and she gave him a cup of coffee to go. We both had the same item from the menu and developed severe stomach cramps after leaving. The hashbrowns were very greasy and we were left to wonder if that was the cause of our distress. One woman who was working left the dining area to go empty garbage in the restrooms, which were absolutely filthy! While she was emptying garbage the only other employee was the cook. This woman absolutely went out of her way to ignore the customers. She wouldn't serve coffee, refill our water, ring up our bill, nothing...and we were the only people in the place until just prior to our leaving. Needless to say, we will never visit this...

I can't comment on the food because I decided not to eat here. When I went to walk in I observed a group of employees both standing and sitting on chairs/ the curb, smoking next to the restaurant. This is an extremely bad look to begin with, but what made it worse is when I watched said employees return to work through the rear doors and go immediately to working with food with no hand washing and no gloves. Yuck!

Also, one of the employees, I believe the one working the grill, had one of the nastiest phlegmy coughs I've ever heard. It may have just been a severe smoker's cough, but I don't relish the idea of contracting covid while on the road for business, so I had to pass. Another reason it's bad business to allow employees to congregate and smoke in view of arriving customers. The fact that they see fit to place chairs next to the restaurant for employees to sit in while they smoke...
