I can only review what I have had up to this point and my current review is 5 stars on Mike's cheesecake. I have had the cheesecake plain for my coworkers birthday and it is by far the best cheesecake I have ever had. My sweet fiance brought me a huge heart cheesecake with a strawberry topping. It is just the right amount of strawberry without overpowering the flavor and the topping doesn't add any unwanted or, I should say, unnecessary sweetness. I will follow up on more than just cheesecake when we go back this weekend! As for the cheesecake, I only need a fork and no way am I sharing. 😉
Updated to my previous post. Photos have been added! I have never had anything quite like the pastries and baked goods at Mike's. Mike is one of the sweetest men I have ever encountered. His joy and passion for what he does shows in every taste and texture. I was able to try so many things he had to offer. I could spend hours describing the flavors and textures of the eclair, napoleon, pecan sandies, and everything else I was blessed enough to try but you will have to experience it for yourself to truly appreciate it. I look forward having the groom's cake made by Mike for our wedding. This man has perfected...
Read moreEdit: the owner’s son saw my review and reached out to me to make it right. He talked about working on training with the staff and charged me the originally quoted price. I appreciate the time he took with me. And, to be fair, the cake was pretty dang good.
I called 6 days before my step dad’s birthday to order the one thing he asked for on his bday: an Italian rum cake. I was told the price for the size I wanted would be $40 at the low end and $45 at the high end. I called again the day before his birthday to confirm and was told the price was $55. When I questioned this it was explained that the girl that took my order was new and didn’t know the pricing and I could cancel if I wanted. But it’s a specialty cake and it’s about 20 hours till go-time. So I’m kinda screwed. If you’re quoted a range you should expect to pay in that range. And if the business needs to make a change to their quote they should reach out to you...not leaving it as a surprise for the customer. Really disappointed with the customer...
Read moreI am excited to share my review of Mike’s bakery. I have lived in Texas since 1969. I moved from Milwaukee, where there were incredible German bakeries. The pastries we get in grocery stores here really can’t compare with what I had growing up. I ordered a couple of danishes this morning from Mike’s. There is a huge difference between fresh pastries made by a master baker and mass produced bakery. There is no life or love in the latter. Mike’s textures and flavors (got two different kinds) transported me back to my childhood. This wasn’t just something for breakfast, this was a love letter from a master baker to his customers. I don’t typically wax poetic over food. This was a rare experience and delight I had to share. I called to compliment him. He was trained by German bakers to the point I could recognize it in taste and texture. You will not be disappointed. Get there in the morning for a transformative treat. ...
