As a longtime resident of New York City, a melting pot of culinary delights, my expectations for Chinese cuisine are admittedly high. Having lived amidst a plethora of both authentic and Americanized Chinese options for over a decade, Iâve developed a discerning palate. So, when I found myself at a Chinese buffet in Corinth, Mississippi, I was understandably skeptical. After all, this was one of the few Chinese dining options within a 100-mile radius.
First Impressions and Ambiance
Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately struck by its welcoming atmosphere and cleanliness. The owners, exuding warmth and efficiency, moved seamlessly through the bustling space. It was heartening to see the dining area brimming with patrons, a testament to the restaurant's popularity in a region with limited choices in Chinese cuisine.
Culinary Experience
The buffet spread was extensive, a delightful surprise given the restaurant's remote location. While some dishes couldn't quite match the flavors I've grown accustomed to in NYC, they possessed a unique charm. It was evident that the recipes were adapted to cater to local tastes, which is understandable and often necessary. However, this deviation did not detract from the overall quality. The food was fresh, and the buffet was well-maintained, a clear indication of the care put into the restaurantâs operation.
Service and Hospitality
The level of service was noteworthy. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The efficiency of the owners added a personal touch, making the meal feel more like a community gathering than a simple buffet.
Cultural and Culinary Significance
This restaurant serves as an important culinary gateway for locals. In a region with limited exposure to varied Chinese or Chinese American cuisine, it introduces flavors and dishes that may be unfamiliar to many. It's a stepping stone, encouraging exploration beyond the familiar.
Final Thoughts
While some aficionados of Chinese cuisine might find the flavors slightly adapted, it's essential to appreciate the restaurant's context. It's a beloved local spot, providing a taste of Chinese culture in an area where such experiences are rare. I look forward to seeing how exposure to such cuisine inspires locals to explore more diverse culinary landscapes.
Overall, this Corinth buffet is a gem in its own right. It's a reminder that sometimes, the value of a dining experience isnât just about the authenticity or complexity of flavors but also about the community it serves and the...
Read moreI came back to re rank from 3 stars to 2. I USED to adore this place. The last 4 times I've been the food isn't even hot, it's barely warm, and not even close to fresh. This place has been going down hill in quality since about 3, or 4 years pre covid in my opinion. I understand that these are hard times, but even well before covid they started removing all my favorite foods. The walk up, and order sushi bar never has anyone behind it. I can only have certain types of meat in mine so I don't chance the pre-made ones. That was my favorite feature of this place, and they removed it. The dumplings.. The dumplings are gone đ who doesn't love dumplings (some people call them potstickers)? Now they may still have them once a week or something, but I've been over a dozen times the last year, and don't see them. They're not clean enough with the hibachi.. I have a seafood allergy, and that's never been an issue with me because I'm very careful about it. The people at the hibachi apparently don't know any English at all. I've tried to tell them several times not to let anything They're cooking for me come into contact because of my allergy, and I'll tip well for the extra work. Well they don't listen. They go straight from cooking shrimp to my food. With the same spatula. I'm not against people who don't speak English working, but I think if your customer base is 98 percent English speaking you might want to make sure your employees coming into contact with people that speak English know the bare minimum at least. This could prevent someone like me eating freaking shrimp, and going into a severe allergic reaction. Bottom line is this place gets two stars. They're way worse than they were 10 years ago. Food is never really warm, or fresh, and I can't communicate with much of anyone cooking, also a lot of foods that used to be here aren't here anymore, and don't seem to be...
Read moreNew China Buffet was good as far as the food is concerned according to my husband. I only had tea. I told the waitress when she seated us that I did not want the buffet, I only wanted tea. When we got the check, they had charged us for 2 buffets. My husband pointed out to them that I didn't eat. I never got up from my seat until we were ready to leave. This young man whom we told preceded to get another waiter and they discussed the situation in Chinese and probably called us all sorts of names. Then he came to our table and picked up a fork and rubbed it as if to see if it had been used. That was very rude, The fork could have been dirty to begin with and I guess I would have been charged. They will never get another tip from me. Never said anything when he brought the corrected check. They can't understand anything but they know what check means. While my husband was getting his food, I opened his silverware and straw. When he returned he opened the other silverware unaware that the first was opened. They brought a new ticket with the corrections. So I understand people make mistakes but they were ugly about it as if I should want to pay $8.00 for nothing. I am always a tipper but I felt they were not deserving. Besides they never served us by asking if we needed refills. I think that we will not be eating there for a good while. I don't really care for it anyway but my husband does So you ask how was my trip to the New China Buffet? It was as far as I am concerned, the worse part of my beautiful day. I didn't have to lie about eating cause I could have still eaten someplace else. I prefer American or my own cooking to Chinese any day and from now on I will just sit in the car. So the trip there was truly...
