Big Buck's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Corolla

Had to leave a 5 star review after reading so many other 4 star and lower reviews.

We've been coming to Corolla for 20+ years with our extended family. I look forward to visiting Big Buck's on every trip. And every visit they never disappoint!

In reading other reviews of Big Buck's, people seem to be conflating value with taste. I personally think the review should be based on their ice cream quality alone. And let people judge the value as they see fit.

For my money, Big Buck's can't be beat. I think it's by far the best ice cream on the island. And it's definitely in the my top three ice creams of all time. I purposely visited 2 other highly (higher than Bucks) rated ice cream shops when I was in OBX, just to see if I was missing something. And it wasn't even close. Big Buck's blows them out of the water.

We had 6 people get 6 different flavors and I tried them all. We got Chocolate Peanut Butter, Biscoff Chip, Mint Chocolate Chip, Espresso Chip, Banana, and plain ol' Vanilla.

The Biscoff Chip had delicious swirls of Cookie Butter mixed throughout. The Banana was the best banana ice cream I've ever tasted. And the "plain jane" Vanilla was awesome. You can tell a lot about a place by it's plain Vanilla. Most places don't care about it because it's really just a base for all the other flavors. Someone who's ordering Vanilla by itself might not really care how it tastes. But this Vanilla was rich, creamy, and complex. It stood on it's own as a GREAT flavor.

To close out. Big Buck's makes small batch, homemade ice cream with top shelf, fresh ingredients. OF COURSE it's expensive. But if you care about your ice cream,...

We went for a banana split back in May at the Corolla location and were surprised that the employer and the manager did not wear any masks or gloves. The girls hands were all over my split but she did not care to wash or use gloves. By the time I sanitized my hands and took my mask off, the split had all melted and a hard, green banana was floating in the brown ice cream water. Then in August we went to the Big bucks Kitty Hawk location and my ice cream was handled by the manager herself who was not wearing any mask or gloves. I returned the ice cream. Although, my husband wanted to eat his ice cream, it was all melted by the time we got downstairs. I am not sure if this ice cream is made from real cream since it is melting as soon as being served. And the consistent lack of care for the health and safety of their customers is unacceptable. Irresponsible businesses attract irresponsible customers some of whom tried to shame us for raising the issue of masks and gloves. We are local and it does not seem to be right that the visitors are teaching the locals how to live. ...

When I was at this shop the soft serve ice cream was unavailable. The line was crazy inside and out of the store. The line outside was about 100 degrees in the hallway at around 9 pm, everyone was sweating and avoiding spiders and cockroaches. Once you actually get inside which took quite a while the decor was pretty cool and the store was clean. The ice cream was very expensive and quite frankly not even that good. The portion sizes are pretty fare but the flavor of the ice cream was borderline breyers quality. They have a menu outside of the store to see what you want before you enter but it is horribly inaccurate. Multiple ice cream flavors were on the outside menu but once you get inside the selection was completely different.
