Stopped here to try the 3 meat plate. Per usual I got the brisket, ribs and jalapeño sausage with beans and slaw. The wife got the loaded baked potato.
The plate looked great. I had asked for moist brisket and the 2 pieces I received were thick cut point/flat pieces. The two ribs were large and had a decent amount of meat on them. The sausage was good altho I would suspect it’s bought and not made. Sides were bland and needed seasoning.
The potato was large and had the pulled pork, cheese, butter and sour cream on the side. I was not a fan of the BBQ sauce
The good: the ribs were good perhaps a little tough but not bad. Sausage was good but again maybe a little over done as it was a little chewy The potato was good.
The bad : Brisket. Fat was not fully rendered and the flat (lean) was down right tough. Could barely pull the meat apart. Almost no smoke flavor. (Think post roast) The sides were forgettable and needed Al lot of help. Meal with 2 drinks $42 Side note, the day we were here it was cash only. May want to bring your own flatware as the provided utensils are flimsy and not...
Read moreSo I really wanted to like this place, have been here a few times and overall it's just okay. The jalapeno sausage is very good some of the best I've had in Corpus Christi yet. Brisket was very moist and bark had good flavor to it, except for the lean that was very dry and chewy. The pork ribs were overcooked and actually mushy coming off the bone. Typically I like fall off the bone but these were just way too overcooked. The homestyle beans are cooked almost perfectly with good flavor. Would love if they could convert their homestyle into a Charo style Bean I bet they can make it taste really good. Potato salad was very heavy on the mustard and pickles was my least favorite item. Last the barbecue sauce just had some kind of a weird flavor I cannot place the taste but does not taste like any kind of barbecue sauce I'm accustomed to. Again the food was not bad but just...
Read moreWe had not been here recently, but in the area on a tight schedule. My husband had a brisket sandwich with pinto beans. The brisket was good , good bark , not to dry . The beans were ok just no spice. I had a sausage sandwich with potato salad. The sausage was pretty good , it did have a good smoke flavor , the potato salad was ok , I am Texas born and raised and I do make my potato salad with mustard in it ,but this one was to mustard forward , maybe a little bit of mayonnaise to temper. We also had a piece of pecan pie , it was sooo gooey and good , in fact , took a piece home!! I will say I am not a big sauce fan , as I feel good meat should stand alone , but we did try it and it was 100 % improved. Last time it was runny , no spice and waaaaay too much vinegar. Not this time , It was thicker, had a just right kick and not a strong...
