Alteño Taqueria — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

Alteno has been my families go-to restaurant for years but for the last year or two it has been a roller-coaster with the quality of food.

Overall they have good tasting food.

The Carne Guisada can be good one day and the next it is fatty, real red, and only like 4-5 pieces in a taco.

The Tortillas can be good when made fresh. Lately they have been pre-made or just not made good, they are hard. The breakfast plate scrambled eggs are always overdone and the sausage patties I think are made there, they are so thin and cooked on one side because they leave it on the grill too long it cooks quick and burns.

I asked for a chorizo and egg taco with bean and everything was separate in the taco, not mixed. Chorizo by itself is strong and I was pregnant at the time I couldn't eat it.

It has to be different cooks but when we make a complaint to the staff or owner they act like we're being over dramatic or lying. They hate hearing feedback which is bad for their business. This is the reason for this review.

We get alteno almost every single morning so these comments are coming from years of experience here and we're just tired of the quality.

It seems like they are going the cheaper quicker route to make the food.

Alteno is convenient for us because of its location but we're getting ready to start trying other restaurant near by.

I've always had issues getting my favorite breakfast plate. I usually never complain but yesterday I finally did after a long night making other people food correctly. I place my order potato egg plate I asked for bacon mixed in. I get my plate potatoes are boiled bacon not mixed. I sent plat back specifically telling the waitress how I want it and she does tell the cook how I want it. The cook proceeds to ignore my request based on laziness and just mixes the bacon in and I get the plate back. I sent it back and my morning ruined. If you like potato and egg don't even come here go to Santa Rosa. Waitress did apologize she looked embarrassed and I was angry. It was not her fault just the cooks laziness. This is my sister's favorite restaurant. I honestly don't like eating here and will never spend my money here. A lot of people swear on this place but based on how my food always comes out shitty. I don't recommend this place. The only Mexican restaurant I recommend if you want to eat a plate and get your money's worth is Santa. They did finally remake my food how I wanted but I did not...

Older server lady was rude. I have never had her as a server before. I normally sit on the other side. I ordered a number 12 and on the picture it shows rice and beans. I asked her if I can get my rice and she made an excuse saying they gave me guacamole instead. I didn't ever ask for guacamole. She made me ask her 3 different times for rice after she tried to make me look stupid and then started talking to another server about me when I had to go to the front and get a refill on my tea because she never came back to check on us after we got our food. My boyfriend never got a refill either and I literally just lost my appetite. Her vibe was rude and she kept trying to make me feel stupid. I have not ever had a bad experience there. Also the pork had a really weird texture. I am a repeat customer there but definitely won't be going back now. As a Del Mar student it is nice to eat authentic Mexican food but not here. Definitely ruined my experience and will not be back! I wish I got the servers name but she didn't even mention it at all. She was working Tuesday morning July 30th...
