We recently moved to Corpus. I'm from South Carolina and I've eaten every flavor profile of BBQ (from Carolina to Kansas City to Memphis), so I know and love good BBQ. I heard Texas was where BBQ originated (I knew this was false but ok), so I could not wait to get here to try some Texas BBQ for the first time in my life. My wife asked around and was told Rudy's is the place to go for good BBQ. It was my wife's birthday so I took her to Rudy's on Saturday. I ordered .5 pounds of brisket, 1 pounds of baby back ribs, .5 pounds chicken, 2 jalapeno sausages, 1 pint of potatoe salad, and 1 pint of BBQ beans. The young man who took my order was very courteous and the service was fairly quick. It was Saturday but we found a place to sit immediately. This was strange because if you go to a restaurant known for good BBQ, good luck finding parking and seating. We were very excited to try Texas BBQ. Man, what a HUGE let down! This food was terrible! The brisket had good texture but tasted like wood. The ribs had good texture but tasted like wood. The chicken tasted like wood! The sausage had good flavor but it was dry as the Mohave desert. The potato salad was bland and the beans were a mouth full of salt with no flavor. The best part of the meal was the plain white bread and the fountain Dr. Pepper. The BBQ sauce on the table was good but sauce is to enhance flavor not to create it! We ate a little bit of food and bagged up the rest of it. What a joke this food was! When we got home, we threw all of it in the trash and ate left over pizza! $72 for the food and a $10 tip for garbage. What a waste of money! We will never set foot in this place again and we will recommend to everyone else that they don't visit this place! If this is Texas BBQ, this state has a lot to learn about true BBQ. Real talk, this was the worse BBQ I have had in 5 decades of eating BBQ. I would cook this place under the table. My final word to sum all this...
Read moreI usually love this place and have never had a problem before. I just went there and ordered 7 breakfast tacos 5 brisket and egg, 2 with cheese. The order came out quick and we grabbed it and left without thinking of checking as we were in a rush. We get the 15 minutes back to the house to find that they gave us only 2 tacos and a bowl of eggs and brisket….. I called back to get my order fixed and had to go through multiple people because they told me they are no longer making tacos. I was also given the option to come in and grab all the left over tacos from the front. I told them I couldn’t because my family can’t have cheese and that’s all they had. After being out on hold again, I was told that they would remake the tacos. I was happy with that despite driving the 15 minutes back. I get there and get the order and find out that again it was messed up. I was given 5 with cheese and only 2 without. At this point, I was just so aggravated I left. Once we opened them up and ate them, we almost all threw up from the amount of salt they put into the eggs (and I love salt)… and this wasn’t just a little salt… when I mean salty, I truly mean it taste like a whole shaker of salt was put on each taco…. They were completely unedible and I believe they did this out of spite from having to remake the order THEY messed up. I am extremely displeased with Rudy’s and don’t...
Read moreI’ve eaten at Rudy’s all over Texas from Austin to League City. This is the worse location I have ever eaten at. I have no idea how it is a 4.6 rating. I ordered the 1/2 chicken, 1/2 jalapeños sausage and 1/2 lbs pork ribs, small Rudy’s Beans and corn on the cob. Every single meat and side was room temperature except ONE cobblet of the 2 they gave me. It was gross. The ribs and chicken appeared not thoroughly cooked. The kid helping me was painstaking slow, getting one meat at a time then checking the screen again to see what else he needed. Couldn’t even remember the meats all together. The steam table for the beans and corn on the cob must have been out because he went to the back and got more and the one from the table was room temperature and the other from the back was actually hot. The only piece of hot food in the entire meal. Literally nothing was warmer than room temperature. Then to complete the ruining of my meal, he put no bread in the bag. I threw 80% of the meal out. I will not ever be back here. I’ll stick to the Rudy’s in the...
