My favorite hobby is to go around the city and sample new restaurants. I like to give my honest critique and review based on my palate and what I like. I only post reviews on restaurants that I like because I do not believe in publicly shaming a restaurant. However this is one of the best restaurants I’ve encountered within the past few months here in Corpus Christi. If I’m being brutally honest I’m going to have more negative experiences than bad experiences because serving food is not easy. Nevertheless Z counter makes it look easy has almost everything on that menu is tasty and fresh . It seems everything‘s cooked to order which lends its self to a pleasurable and palatable experience. I even like the vibe it has an “Old Austin” (before the Californians moved there) Feel and that’s great since this is Basically Asian St., Food. The Singapore noodles are my favorite and I crave them daily. If you’re looking for a new place to eat or if you’re coming to town as a tourist you have to put Z counter on your radar . What makes it even more amazing is that it’s surrounded by a couple of good Asian restaurants however I think there by far the best. Everything is clean, fresh and the customer service is great. I like that they put everything into go boxes because you almost have to take everything to go as they give you a lot of good food. Z counter is one of the true gems of...
Read moreI've visited Z Counter three times and I've really enjoyed the food every time. Last time I visited I got the beef spare rib tacos (great), chicken curry fried rice (mild flavor, which I improved hugely by adding the ginger sauce), and sesame tots (a little rich for me, but really interesting and nice flavor). My only issue with this restaurant is that I can't shake the feeling that you need to be part of a secret in-crowd to eat there. The menu is expansive but it's a small restaurant, so I get that they've crammed a lot into a small space. And the pictures on the wall help...kinda. But the staff that take my order are not particularly helpful. I know they can see that people are uncomfortable and overwhelmed by the choices on the menu, but just stare at you until you finally pick something (possibly at random.) This may come across as an exaggerating but I've seen many customers go through this agony, and I've seen people look at the menu for 10 minutes and finally just leave. I still feel like I'm missing out on something great because I really don't understand what everything on the menu is, and I hate missing out! Maybe that's Z Counter's way of getting me to return and try more things. If that is the strategy, I think it's probably...
Read moreOur first time here and it was good. What got out attention when looking for a place to eat we’re the steamed tacos. That looked interesting. Their menu has a variety of unique dishes. I tried their beef and Mac version. The pasta was slightly overcooked but it had a good sweet taste. Almost taste like they used ketchup. The steamed tacos were something new to me and were delicious. I think they use the same ground beef as in the beef and mac; the meet had a sweetness to it. Not expected, but it’s good. I also had the Mongolian beefsteak sandwich (ala Phili cheesesteak). If you want a kid of sodium intake, that’s what you order. I was expecting the meat and veggies of Mongolian beef but not the sauce/gravy. I couldn’t finish eating it because the sodium was way too much o my pallet. I’ve never had Mongolian beef that salty. My associates ordered stir fry rice with beef and chicken and that was delicious. Overall it was good, next time I go I know to steer away from the Mongolian sandwich, but double up on the steamed tacos. The staff...
