Durty Nelly's — Restaurant in Costa Mesa

The name and hope of a pastrami melt is what drew me in, we were hungry and didn’t want to go to taco Hell or McDiarrhea or any other chain and this place was about to close in 20 minutes per Google map (as we found out not true, it was just the beginning of Karaoke). The crowd was a fun singing group, the servers were polite helpful and lovely. We had never had shepherds pie and it came highly recommended so we had to have it, and then the San Francisco burger (sorry photo was too blurry), and the kids chicken strips. The burger was a very thick patty and juicy, cooked well and one of the best burgers I’ve had, and fries held their own although I’ve had better but not knocking this one. The kids chicken fingers were big enough for an adult (indeed it was shared by myself and my “I already had dinner” daughter, and it was ordered for my 2 year old). Now shepherds Pie,, as I said earlier we never had one but if this was even mediocre I can’t imagine how much better it could be. This pie was full of meat, cooked well, loved the green peas and carrots and sauce and the mashed potatoes in it was so good. I can’t say enough good things about this it was THAT delicious. I stopped by this place as I was in the area without a vehicle at lunch time, and they were within walking distance. Nice old Irish manor feel to the decor, clean and welcoming. I had the fish and chips, and was happy.

The filet was well sized, had a delicious sauce on the side, and tasted fresh. The fries were just how I like them - crisp on the outside and soft in the center.

Prices was right around $11-12 which seemed very reasonable to me. The food came out very quickly, but the service after the food was delivered could have been a tad more attentive.

My only complaint was the limited selection of non-alcoholic beverages for folks like me that don't drink. The waitress told me they only had Coke, diet Coke, and 7-up. Oh well, it is a pub after all.

Decent food, above average beer, typically unfriendly staff, and the atmosphere is merely average. However, they do have great beer on tap and their Corned Beef Sandwich is fantastic!!! Also, they have an excellent karaoke night every week which I previously attended on many nights. Overall, I like Durty Nelly's and I think it's a decent place to have lunch or get drinks after work.

Great food. Great service. Fantastic drinks. This place can get a bit crowded on the weekends. They offer karaoke on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Geeks Who Drink Quiz is on Wednesday. They occasionally have live bands on the weekends. They always throw a huge St. Patrick's Day party with karaoke, live music, and stink and food specials.
