OH HELL NO! Got take out last night (8/8/2025) for an order of fish & chips and a baked scrod. Got home, and this is NOT a scam, but took one bite of the fish & chip and there was a long strand of hair that I removed from my mouth! That was it - dinner's over.
The baked fish looked ok and the sides, nothing to write home about. Of course, not that I ate the baked fish or anything else. Went down the road to B** instead and was much happier.
8/11/2025 update: it's a shame that the respondent chose instead to use an attack rather than cordiality. Because I mentioned B* Restaurant in my review, it has been subsequently removed because they have no affiliation to this matter; I was speaking as a customer. So don't go blaming them.
As for calling or DM to address: it would have been far more effective had we dined in house as the issue could have been taken up immediately with our server. However, as this was take-out and then subsequently discovering an issue seems more "scammy". What should I have done - taken said hair back to your establishment? And then what? Consider it lucky, actually, that I didn't ask for my $40+ dinner refunded. You can keep the money; I get restaurant business is very competitive with thin margins.
Finally, you have no idea how many times over the years my wife and I have dined, only to find unwanted items in our food. I kid you not: plastic wrapper shavings in a burrito bowl (Chipotle - North Kingstown; addressed to "manager" who did nothing), a piece of METAL from a fryolater basket in my chicken parm (now-defunct Uncle Tony's, Cranston.), a dead cockroach in a take out pizza (now defunct pizza restaurant, Providence - THAT ONE I returned to restaurant and showed them), and yes, hair. So when you're spending a good amount of $$$, I tend to get a bit miffed. As a result, the...
Read moreMy family (4 adults, 1 toddler, 1 baby) went for dinner tonight after reading really good reviews over the past few months. We walked in and the waitress immediately put 2 tables together for us. We didn’t see her again for 20 minutes. The place was busy, but there were 2 or 3 open tables at that point. When she returned she did apologize for the delay and stated they were short staffed tonight. When she delivered our drinks we put our dinner order in knowing it was pretty busy. We had no idea it would take another hour and 10 minutes to see our food. 3 individuals ordered sandwiches and I ordered the chicken parm dinner. Right before our meals came I decided I needed to take my baby home because it was getting so late so the rest of my party took my dinner home to me. The chicken parm was nothing (and I mean nothing) to write home about. My 4 year old son got penne with 2 small meatballs ($12!). I 100% realize they were short staffed but I would have expected the waitress to realize we had 2 small children in our party and told us we would be looking at over an hour. OH! And 2 gentleman walked in after us, were seated at a table close by so I heard them order 2 sandwiches (the same 2 as people in my party) and they ate and cashed out before our meals came.
I REALLY REALLY love supporting local businesses… I can’t tell you the last time I ate at a chain restaurant but I can tell you that I’m in no rush to return to Sherry’s.
Like I said, I’ve read great reviews but I cannot in good...
Read moreOnly in Rhode Island (and on your second visit to Sherri’s Come Along Inn) can you reunite with the bartender/server with whom you cocktail waitressed nearly 30 years ago in Newport—who is serving you dinner at Sherri’s! It truly is a small world and a very small state. So fun to see Kim again, and I look forward to catching up with her in future visits.
Besides that fun happenstance, my recent visits to the restaurant have been consistently delicious. It’s becoming a weekly habit. How have I lived in the area for decades and not known about this gem?
Food is fresh (fresher than the cook, but she’s pretty fresh too! 😉) hot and abundant (plan to have a takeout box for another meal when you leave). I highly recommend the famous meatballs, parmigiana dishes, cheesesteak and the Shepherd’s Pie. I’m still eating my way through the menu, but that’s what I have so far! The “Fresh” Margarita, as recommended by ABC6’s Kelly Bates, is magnificent. And yes, I paid more for my drinks than my dinner and I’m not mad about it. 😉
But what “makes” a restaurant is the staff and environment. Sherri’s is truly like a modern-day Cheers! The bar is always full and familiar faces around it are happy and welcoming. The servers, owners and chefs remember their patrons—even new ones like me. Shout out to “Mama Jo” and Chef Donna for their dinner recommendations and the fun banter!
Come for the delicious home-made food. Stay for the warm and welcoming environment of an exceptionally well-run, locally owned...
