This was our first time trying out Walden’s, and for a first impression.....it wasn’t a great one. I placed our to go order at 6:15pm today, and I was told I would be about 15 minutes. When I went to pick it up the prices were different then the menu online. Strike 1. Then I kept seeing people drive thru and walk up to get their food after I was already there. I sat there for a good 45 minutes before I just said “I’m over it”. I knew they were busy, but not that daggum busy. I checked on my order, and I was told it was misplaced on their order board. However, I literally watched them take my order from their order board. Strike 2. Then I get home to open up the to go box, and I was really in shock. I paid $15 for a 10 pc fried shrimp meal (X2), and 1 kids chicken tenders with fries. I was shocked in the quantity of size and how small the sides were. We gave it a chance, and said to ourselves maybe this will be some really great seafood. Nope. It’s just average. So for the price I’d pay to eat at long horns, I got an average...

The good: Fantastic fried shrimp. Nice breading on the chicken tender which was made of a full cut of white meat chicken. Ribs were tender and tasty. Portions were generous without being wasteful. The folks working there were polite, attentive, friendly, and working hard.
The bad: 2 adults and two kids was $75. Way WAY too much for fried food in a styrofoam container with tiny to-go packaged utensils. Fries were frozen crinkle cut, undercooked, and had exactly zero grains of salt. The Brunswick stew tasted like it should be called "shredded chicken ketchup soup." Cole slaw was cabbage and onion, under sauced, not seasoned. Service was attentive but took a long time to receive food. Sweet tea didn't taste fresh, so we traded it in on sodas. Daughter said her hotdog was "stadium mid" which I assume isn't a compliment.
Overall: it was fine. Hopefully it...
Read moreOh my goodness (literally)! I passed by Walden's today on my way home. Been living in this area for one full month and saw #1 in Newton County outside.
I am so happy I turned my car around. When I say, everything I ordered is finger-licking good! Wow, my taste buds are tantalized and awake. Lol
They open at 3:00 pm but the owner served me any way at 2:30 pm. She is amazing and let me sample a few things. I ended up buy the 2-pc catfish filet with 1 chicken finger and coleslaw, cheese grits as sides. I had to get a bowl of the brunswick stew to go and taste the strawberry pie.
Um um um! Lol, you know the food is good when you bite into it and start dancing all of a sudden. I will definitely be coming back.
And as a new resident in Covington will pick some items up when I have my housewarming in a few months.
Good food guys. And I felt that good ole southern...
