Picture this: an anxiety inducing atmosphere, bitter coffee, subpar service, and the worst macaron you've ever tasted. Go across the street to @Local instead.
Let me explain: I don't leave bad reviews but I just left this establishment and I'm astonished. The setup of this store is less than ideal. Seating isn't the best, and there's retail shelves everywhere so you have to skooch past everyone. The sign for coffee is right next to the register so you can't decide while you wait, so you finally get up to the front, have to awkwardly look for what you want, all while the woman at the cash register is annoyed with how long you're taking.....for an issue they created. Now you go to ask a question, and she doesn't know the menu. (Perhaps she's new. Let's give her that.) You order a macaron. She asks you which one. (There's 25 different flavors, and no signs in front of them to tell you which is which.) So you pick a color, gambling because it could totally be a flavor you don't like. But oh well. So you order a coffee, taste it, and it's bitter an has no flavor. Not great considering coffee is their specialty and they grind their own beans I believe. So you leave and sit down to have your bitter coffee and questionable macaron, and it is absolutely the DENSEST thing you've ever had. Macarons are difficult to make, so usually I'm not picky. I'm just enthusiastic to have one in the first place. But it's COLD because the temperature in the fridge is too cold for the macarons... they're not only cold but extremely hard. It's honestly impressive how on the outside they manage to look fine but once you take a bite they're awful. I didn't want to walk the 300 feet to @Local and I paid...
Read moreCovington squares little gem this place was great!! The coffee was good and fresh my sister ordered. I had a Chai tea it was a vampire diaries specialty sorry I don't remember the name but it's on the menu it was perfect. My pastry was made of chocolate and nuts I believe pecans I had it for 2 days lol it was good I believe it was semi-sweet chocolate. As for the service upon arrival being a first Comer there wasn't a crowd and we did not feel greeted as we looked at the pastries and menu it was as if they saw us but didn't come up and say anything the girl at the pastry stand who was there looked at us and said nothing even walked off once we went to the coffee counter again we were seen but no one assisted us until we were standing there for a good amount of time "it have you been helped" as if they didn't see us walk up to the counter in the very first place. Now our server that did get to us was sweet she took our orders and when I told her about not being tended to at the pastry counter she left her station and helped us over there also informing us about every treat. I don't remember her name but her face I won't forget. Im usually big on first impressions I will return Covington is my city and the atmosphere was quaint and cozy and I must have that drink...
Read moreI've been visiting Bread and Butter for several years now, every time I come to town to be with my family, and it's consistently one of my favorite spots.
The location is ideal, and the people make the experience even better. Gina is always a sweetheart, Brea is fantastic, and it's been wonderful getting to know Zac and the rest of the team. Their warmth and hospitality make every visit memorable.
The ambiance is what keeps me coming back. Whether I'm working on my laptop with a cup of tea or coffee, or tucked away in the cozy back room with a good book, it's the perfect environment. The desserts are always tempting, and I'm excited about their upcoming wine and beer options -- I personally think I work even better with a glass of wine!
Bread and Butter is more than just a café -- it's a true community hub. It's a great place to meet someone for the first time, hold a meeting with a mentor or guide in the early morning, or simply gather with friends. I often see women and men groups meeting there, as it's clear this space was created to bring people together.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a welcoming, inspiring place to connect, create,...
