First time dinning here tonight. We found the restaurant on Open Table and we were both disappointed.
In true honest fairness to us as first time Patron's, we have advanced experience dinning out, we travel professionally and personally often, so we have a ton of experience.
I ordered the 6 oz filet with green beans and fries. I ate two bites of the filet and was turned off immediately by its smell and taste. I moved on to the beans and they were served aldante, which I love, however they were so very salty and all the twiggy ends were not removed, the fries were decent. My steak had a taste I could not place and I let my husband taste it as well, he advised me not to eat it. We were worried it was spoiled, though he thought it was stored in the refrigerator with other items and not covered well, it didn't taste good. The staff who took my plate didn't even ask what was wrong, normally if you see over half the food left they would ask, was the food ok.
My husband had the Buffalo chicken wrap, the chicken was barely covered in sauce and his chicken was dry and seemed as though it was days old. The two server's, one of who was the bartender were very lovely and tentatively aware of our needs.
Now, since this was our first time dinning her and because we are passing through I didn't send the filet, beans and chicken wrap back. We both had a harsh sense that there was not a ton of resturant quality kitchen experience in the cooks or staff. Because someone owns or operates a resturant doesn't mean they can cook well. We wish this establishment well, especially in these hard times. We hope they read reviews and make...
Read moreI used to love to go to lunch at F and M. You could always count on the best tenderloin and fries in town. Paired with a cold beer, they had all the other places (mostly chains) beat hands down. To say I was disappointed last Sunday is an understatement. They had a limited Sunday-only menu and the choices are pretty scaled back vs. the normal menu. Ok, I can live with that. What I can’t live with is a perfectly round, machine-milled, frozen patty with a dollop of bbq sauce passed off as something that is not at all artisan and arguably worse than Applebees. 2 other burgers and a chicken wrap in our group of 4 we’re just… blah and underwhelming. Portions are scaled back (fries and cheesecurds)…. I get it, inflation, however, 9-10 tiny cheese curds for 9.99 is a little silly when they’re no better than a frozen box of 50 for the same price at Kroger down the street. Having our waters already at the table to meet our reservation party was ho-hum, the ice was melted and I don’t know where those waters have been….just saying. All in all, having gone from great to terrible, maybe it’s a one-off, but for $114 plus a $20 tip, I can literally feed myself two weeks’ worth of better quality meals from the stuff I buy from Aldi’s in Greencastle or Brownsburg for the same $134. I’d tell you that this was a nice addition to Crawfordsville back in the day but now you should just save yourself the trouble and try the Culver’s Butter Burger 2 miles down the road for...
Read moreI went there the other night, for my father's and my birthday with his wife. We all had the Filet Mignon. Mashed Potatoes are very good.
When I cut through the center of that Filet, it wasn't the Medium Rare I asked for it was most definitely a Medium..
All of our steaks were overcooked to what we had ordered.
Not a big fan of making a fuss over first world problems. In addition to the fact its flat ironed, you should mention that. Traditional Steaks are cooked over flame, and secondarily, you can't be cooking hamburgers next to Steaks.
That was the worst part of it, the taste. Between what seemingly was a tasty steak, it had a strong hint of hamburger patties, which didn't make for an ideal steak one would be expecting.
I hate giving this a 2. It is a quaint place to eat, however, that night wasn't even busy. There should have been no reason for that.
I may try again in the future and if its improved I'll update and re-rate. Potential is there, but improvements are needed some.
I will say for the staff, our waitress was very cute, but also attentive and was very polite, and recommended us all of that and desert which was amazing. I say, though she recommended it, she didn't cook it. I'm sure they're delicious, but maybe kitchen staff had issues. I want to give you a five!
Picture attached is how a steak should look, though this is a Ribeye Steak, not a...
