Shovel Head Tavern — Restaurant in Cresson

I wanted to love this place, I really did. It was recommended to me when I moved up here. I heard it's owned by a fellow Marine, too, so I love supporting that. I couldn't. We walked in and grabbed a table. I picked the least sticky one... I'm a huge fan of dive bars and greasy food joints so I wasn't too upset but as we sat waiting and looking around- it looked like they cleaned the tables with the bar mop. Under my feet at the table was a few bottle caps and straws, some loose change, crumbs, a sticky puddle under the kiddo... Still willing to do this for the promise of great food. Still trying. We ordered an app sampler, it's a pick 3... They were out of our first two choices, pizza logs and Mac bites. We got fried broccoli, fried cauliflower, and fried pickles. Everything was room temp but they were pretty ok tasting. Oh, and it came out at the same time as our food. I got the buffalo chicken quesadilla. I'm BEWILDERED as to how you can completely CHAR a tortilla but not warm or melt the insides at all. It probably would've been amazing if it had been cooked correctly. (See my pics) My bf got a burger and tots. The burger was ok, I guess, but he said the best part was the tomato on it. I'm not sure how to take that since he doesn't love tomatoes, you decide? He said the tots would've been great if they weren't overcooked. My kiddo got a bacon mushroom Swiss burger and she said it was good. She got the battered fries and they were perfect! Our bartender/server never came back to check on us after the kitchen delivered our food so we got no additional condiments...or silverware. We eventually just went to the bar to pay our ticket. Whatever, but a fork and ketchup would've been super cool. There's no draft beer (fine by me) and my canned beer was decently cold.

Ahhhhh I can't fail to mention the bathroom- the carpeted, lamp lit bathroom with the belly button height mirror. I'll post pictures. It was dive bar perfection.

I guess in all, I'd definitely go back and drink beers, it looked great for that. It was my favorite kind of bar. The old fellas drinking there seemed great... And if I had enough, I'm sure the food would be...

It's a dive bar. It's dirty, outdated and smells like cigarettes and dirty oil. We ordered our lunch to pick up and they told us 45 minutes. We arrived a little over an hour later and they started making our food when we walked in. The food was gross. It was salty, chewy,burnt and the fries were soaked in the old fryer oil. They only take cash. We will...

All of the people ordered food at the same time and it came out randomly. Some things came out after the bill was already paid and we were leaving and there was hardly any customers in there for the food to take as long as it did. Plus, if they don't like the reviews you give them on their Facebook they just delete them then block you...
