I met my friends at Kafe de Kasa after I had gotten off work. I have previously visted this coffee shop twice and both times was unsatisfied with their beverages just due to personal preference. I had stopped at another locally owned, small business coffee shop on my way there since I knew that I was not going to want a coffee at this location. However, my friends had already been there for a little over an hour and already ordered their coffees.
When I walked in, I did notice the small sign posted on the door that read, “no outside food or drink”, but did not think anything of it as the two times i’ve been here, I brought in my personal water bottle as well as snacks. As someone who works at a coffee shop, there are numerous instances where customers have brought in their own drinks or even beverages from elsewhere which we did not even think to say anything of because it is not that big of a deal.
As I walked in, I glanced at the pastries and thought to myself that I would like to get some macaroons, but I first wanted to say hi to my friends and ask if they’d want anything. About 4 minutes after I had sat down, the owner came from behind the coffee bar and walked towards one of the smaller tables. I could feel him staring at me but I chose not to look in his direction because I felt uncomfortable. Within seconds, I notice him walk to our table so we politely say hello to him. Immediately he looks at me in my eyes with anger and aggresively says to me “Do you think that’s funny coming in here with Starbucks?” Me, being nervous and confused on whether he was joking or not responded, “Oh I’m sorry? This is not from Starbucks?” He then says, “Do you think that’s a joke? That is so rude of you to come in here with a coffee from somewhere else. Like, COME ON!” with his hands out. He then walked back to his table, shaking his head, and we were feeling so uncomfortable so we collectively decided to leave. As we walked past him to get to the door, he tells me “I hope you understood.” and tells my friends “I REALLY appreciate you TWO for making a purchase, I hope you have a great day.”
In the moment of this, I wasn’t sure if it was because he noticed I didn’t make a purchase to which I was going to offer that if I purchase the macroons would it be okay for me to still be there. But after seeing the angered look on his face and hearing the forceful agression in his voice, I knew I did not want to support that business and I just wanted to leave due to feeling so uncomfortable. At the end of the day, I understand you had the sign posted, but I do not like the coffee at this location, but do enjoy the atmosphere, which is why my friends and I chose to come here. There are so many other ways that this could have been handled, and it could’ve been done in a respectful manner. If the owner can be this rude and disrespectful to those visiting, I just hope he is atleast nice to staff.
My intentions were not to be rude or disrespectful at all. In the 4 minutes that I was there, I said nothing about how I dislike the coffee. I did not come there with the intention of loitering as my friens had made their purchases and I was planning on doing so aswell. My friends and I will NOT be returning and I will be reporting the owner to the BBB as his agression, unprofessionalism, and extremely rude demeanor was very uncalled for. We will also be letting our friends and family know of this incident so they can be aware of how disgustingly rude the owner is to a group of...
Read moreI am just disappointed lately because this place makes such yummy things ONE time, and then they never make it again. They don’t take any requests or care if you want to have the item they made the one time. They will not remake the Dubai chocolate brownie, but they keep making the regular brownie and the brookie—which are not anywhere as good. I wish they would just have been honest and said “we aren’t doing that anymore” so that I would stop wasting my time looking for it and asking them about it. Super mid brownies, and they refuse to listen to any requests from what customers actually want. They have that damn brookie everyday, and it’s such a disappointment. It’s such an overrated item. I am going to go there less because I know now that my requests are not valued. They are going to make what they want to make, and they won’t do any customer requests. It is a treat to go there, and it isn’t cheap. They are probably annoyed that I asked like five times for the product I actually want to spend money on and enjoy. I’ll make the drive north for the chocolate I want since this place doesn’t care to do more than plop some mediocre brownies down and nothing...
Read moreThe owner of this establishment is an unprofessional creep. He exclusively hires women and insists the staff is like a family, but when one of the girls makes a mistake, he comes down hard on them. I met him once upon coming in to get a drink, and he was weird, passive aggressive, and overall made me feel uncomfortable. He went on vacation for 2 weeks recently and was checking the cameras the whole time. Upon his return he told my 16-year-old sister he was extremely disappointed in her, she was ruining his business, and asked her “how she was gonna help her family” with her quality of work. This was her very first job and she started less than a month ago. She is a straight A student and the most polite young girl you will meet. She was trying her absolute best, even using flash cards to study the drinks every night. I am astounded by the way this man thought this was an acceptable way to speak to a MINOR. She never received proper training, and the other girls apparently were constantly speaking behind her back and refusing to give her tasks or help her. DO NOT LET YOUR...
