12/31/2023 - New Year's Eve Dinner and Toast... - The Pub, being known as a "British Pub" style atmosphere and menu, has had a wonderful concept that we have enjoyed the past several years. That being a rousing chorus of "God Save the Queen" or "God Save the King" as it is now, along with the shot of Guinness at 7PM to match up with the stroke of midnight in London. This year was a bit different. :( No chorus of "God Save the King" was sung or even hinted at, but there was the tempting of a shot of Champaign as an option to the Guinness. This year my girlfriend and I split the shots, I the Guinness, she the Champaign. But that is not all... We are both wine drinkers normally. When I noticed that she had not finished her Champaign I asked her what was wrong. She said it tasted funny. Suspecting it was a cheaper brand I tried it but was surprised to find that it was not even Champaign but a Sparkling Moscato instead. A very sweet, syrup of a desert wine... Not the dry, floral taste of a Chardonnay, infused with carbonation as I was expecting. When I confronted the Host about the "Champaign" she kept insisting that it was their "House" brand wine, a lower cost champaign not one of the more expensive brands. But she still refused to admit that they had served Sparkling Moscato instead of even a knock-off champaign. I suspect she had no idea what was being served or was even of age to have tried or known the difference. It is for these reasons that I am marking them so low. While the food was good. My appetizer was over cooked nearly burnt. The Atmosphere was sorely lacking for the event we were expecting. Any time a Host or management outright lies to the customer regardless of the reason and refused to admit that they were wrong or that the customer is correct in the confrontation it is always a bad situation.
While this has for the past 10-15 years been our favorite location to goto; I think we will now do either the longer drive into Cincy or choose somewhere else to go. This...
Read moreUpdate: After taking a long break from The Pub based on our last experience, we decided to return to see if The Pub returned to the place we remembered it to be and I’m happy to say THEY DID! I had my favorite - fish and chips, and my wife had her favorite - pot roast, and both dishes were back to the way we used to love and remember them. The beef was tender and properly seasoned, the gravy was savory and delicious, and the vegetables and mash were spot-on. My fish was perfectly cooked and properly seasoned, fries were great as was the coleslaw. All in all we’re happy we returned and happy The Pub was back to the old pub we loved. Thank you!!
Been to this pub MANY times in the past but haven't been here for over a year so we stopped in when we were in the area yesterday for my favorite fish and chips. They had a brunch menu so my wife order an English breakfast. We're both usually very satisfied but we were both very dissatisfied this time around. My fish was cooked pretty good (could have sat in the fryer another minute) but my fries were undercooked. Her beans were cold, the sausage on her plate had absolutely NO taste at all, and the rest of her plate tasted as if it were cooked on a grill with old grease. She didn't finish 2/3 of what she was served and when the waiter asked her if she was done, she said "yes, it was inedible" and he said "ok". While I hate to say goodbye to this place, I don't want to risk being disappointed again when there's so many other places around who serve a...
Read moreMe and my husband ate out on the balcony this past weekend. We enjoyed the atmosphere, and the server was nice. I ordered the gouda mac & cheese and there was a hair in it. I didn't make a big deal about it but I kindly notified the server. He took it and had another one made.
Today (Tuesday), my husband wasn't feeling well, and he mentioned wanting soup. He enjoyed the Chicken Curry soup that he had as a side with his meal the weekend prior. He asked me to order a larger portion this time, a bowl instead of a cup.
I called in my order of a bowl of the Chicken Curry soup and the Chicken Gouda pasta for myself.
When I picked up my order, his bowl of soup was 8 bucks and was tiny, smaller than the cup he had the weekend prior while eating out on the balcony. When I mentioned it, they brought out another tiny cup to make two tiny cups.
I showed it to my husband, and he said he'd have to eat something else because there's no way he'd be full on that. I kindly asked for a refund and we'd go somewhere else to eat.
The server asked her manager, and she only refunded the soup because the "pasta wasn't the problem." So I had to keep the pasta. Not only did she do that, but she also sent out the server to tell me rather than herself.
This is not good customer service. I would have been happy if she would have came out and talked to me and tried to make it right. I never complain, but this is just bad customer service.
