We finally got around to trying this place for lunch, and it was definitely worth the wait. The menu is really small, which was my biggest complaint. Most Vietnamese places have a much broader menu, with many options beyond pho. It's funny because both me and my dining partner both wanted non-pho dishes that day, but I guess when the place is called "Pho 5up"...
Anyway, it's a two page menu, so it's pretty short and sweet. All the pho (unless indicated) was $13 per bowl, one size fits all. You get a choice of side with it (by default, they bring you the standard "fixins" of sprouts, basil, lime and jalepeno), and there's also a good sampling of apps you can choose from. We had the egg rolls, which came out super hot and really delicious.
The pho was actually one of the best bowls I've ever had! There was something really good about the broth that made it stand out over others. Not saying I've had a bad bowl anywhere, but this one... it just hit on all the right notes. You could smell the individual spices they used, and the flavor was savory and complex. It just worked on every level.
I'd definitely come back if I'm just in the mood for pho. If I have a craving for other Vietnamese dishes, I'm fortunate to have a couple of other joints nearby that can satisfy those cravings. But, for pho, I'm a fan...
Read moreWould give 0 stars if i could. Came at 8:06, was already treated like an inconvenience (they close at 9). Service started decent other than the passive aggressive comments. Food was decent, until I discovered a strand of BLONDE hair in my food. I ignored the first one, but after discovering a second strand, I brought it to the attention of the restaurant. They asked if I wanted a new dish, which I obviously did. After feeling rushed out the establishment we ask for the bill and some type of compensation for this cross contamination hygiene issue. The staff informed us that I was “lucky” I didn’t get billed for BOTH meals (the hair soup, and the replacement), and that they were doing us a favor by only charging us one. After back and forth, they agreed to 15% off which I accepted and paid the bill with no issue. Our server checked with us again and mentioned something along the lines of “checking the policy before sitting down at a restaurant”. And also mentioned that the hair was “red and curly”.. referring to my own hair?? As the strand we pulled out of the soup was BLONDE and tinted from the SPICY RED BROTH? I feel as the whole experience was a slap in the face and will definitely not be returning as we for sure didn’t feel welcomed or accepted. Very disappointing but...
Read moreI would rate 0 if I can. Walk in with my family for 4 adults and 4 kidsWhen the food is ready to the table, the girl leave all of them in one corner. My wife told her that the shrimp one is hers, but she didn’t put it before my wife table, just walked away. The guy and the girl (they said she is the manager) is not nice at all. When we try to pay the bill, the lady tell my wife it’s $159 without itemized receipt, and she didn’t tell us that there’s 18% tip included already.my wife leave 10 dollars on the table for tip already and we don’t want to pay 18% for the rude service. The guy told us we have to pay for it because we use the restroom and they need to clean the table. The guy said he will call the police if we don’t pay 18% for the tip.it is so embarrassing right before the kids. They don’t put a sign says they’re 18% services charge and they don’t tell you tip included already while you pay the bill, and no itemized receipt. do not...
