Pinemoor Pizza — Restaurant in Crystal Lake

Long story but I will try to spare you most of the details. Last night the pizza bus ended up at Pinemoor Pizza in Crystal Lake. This is a very small little mom&pop shop. You walk in and you are basically in the kitchen. They only have 2 small tables. This place only sells pizza, no appetizers, no salads, just pizza. They only sell 3 sizes of pizza, X-small, 12" and 14." The prices are decent at this place. I ordered a 14" sausage and a 12" sausage, mushroom and green peppers with 2 cans of Coke and the bill was $36. The outside edge of the crust was that saltine cracker style crust that was very crunchy and hollow in the middle. The rest of the pizza was ultra thin and very floppy. The sauce was thick and had a touch of sweetness. It was almost like straight tomato paste out of the can. The cheese was your basic Mozzarella and had a good flavor. The star of the pizza was the chunks of delicious Italian sausage. My friend ate the 12" pizza with the 3 toppings. Because the crust was so thin and floppy it was quite the mess. I guess ok. Took a full hour for delivery of thin crust…..They don’t have a deep dish option. Thin crust OK not great. I wouldn’t order again. I base a lot on sauce. That’s the only reason they got a higher score. The sauce was good. The person on the phone was neither nice nor ugly. we didn’t dine in, so I gave Atmosphere a five. We tried them because they’ve been in the area for so long. I wont go back though. Again the pizza was sub par. I’d rather make it at home than pay to order it special from them. I don’t make a ton of reviews but I had to review Pinemoor because this place knows thin crust pie better than anyone in a 25 mile radius, I’m convinced. I’ve tried just about every other pizza spot in Crystal Lake and none of them have even a contender spot in the race against Pinemoor. The crust alone is a perfectly imperfect canvas, and the sauce is exactly what any true pie lover would want the artist to paint it with. Next time I’m getting extra sauce on top! 6/5 stars all day.
