The Freeze — Restaurant in Crystal Lake

We’ve been coming here for over 10 years, but it’s been awhile and it’s definitely not the same. The girl who took our order was friendly, helpful and even notified us that our food may take a little longer as the people in front of us had a large food order. The pleasantries ended there. We ordered cheese fries, the only place we could find cheese was watered down at the bottom of the cup and for the price the fries didn’t even fill the cup. Coney dogs were okay needed onions. Mozzarella sticks were great dipping sauce blah. Of the 3 Blitz we ordered 1 was the Smore, it was suppose to have marshmallow fluff. Instead it had hard stale marshmallows and a pool of chocolate syrup on top. Not sure where the graham crackers were it ended up being tossed. I thought these were suppose to be blended. Now for the girl who made and handed us our Blitz’s. She was not so friendly. Blitz’s came out 10 minutes before the food. No napkins given and the one cup was dripping ice cream all along the sides. Couldn’t get anyone’s attention for napkins until the food came. When I asked for them she handed me 2. Wipe my hands and cup and assumed there would be napkins in the food bag. Nope, for the price paid are napkins extra? So we had to go back in, I asked the same girl for napkins and she handed me 2 more. Seriously? We are eating coney dogs and we get 2 napkins for 3 people. When I asked her for more she gave me a look and handed me 3 more. I understand times have changed, but the prices are way to high for...

If you haven’t been to Freeze in Crystal Lake, you’re seriously missing out! This place is not just an ice cream stop – it’s an experience. From the moment we walked in, the friendly staff made us feel welcome and excited to try everything.

Their ice cream is super creamy, full of flavor, and made with love – you can tell! We tried a few of their signature creations and each one was better than the last. The kids went crazy for the loaded sundaes and fun toppings, and I personally loved their homemade waffle cones – still warm and crispy!

Everything was clean, the vibe was super family-friendly, and the service was quick, even though it was busy. You can feel the local pride in this place!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Our family already made it a weekend tradition – and honestly, it’s become a favorite memory-maker for us.

The FREEZE is OPEN! A very iconic ice cream shop that has been here since I was a kid growing up here. They are VERY affordable, quantity is HUGE. Quality and presentation is awesome! When I was living behind them on Woodland drive... This was the go to ice cream store. It's been here forever. If you have never tried them, you have no idea what your missing out on.

Pointers: Get there early! And when I say early... Like when they open! Because, as soon (if not before) they open... the line is starting to form around the building. It's just that darn good. They are pretty much hopping from open to close. They are seasonal. So, catch your chance to get a taste of some of the wild creations they have going on, because when school begins again... You'll have missed your chance until next year.
