We came here for my fiancé’s 30th birthday. It was a group of 13 people and they let us know we had to sit 6 to a table if not the waitress would not want to serve us, which is fine and we followed their rules. The waitress came and took our order. She forgot to bring one of our friends drinks but we let it pass and just cancelled that order since it had not arrived 30 min after asking for it. They took about an hour to bring out the appetizer and we had to ask for silverware. Two hours after having placed our order I nicely asked the waitress how much longer our food would take and she told me that there were a lot of people that ordered before me so that I had to wait (the restaurant was pretty empty at this point). We had seen plates that were waiting at their station and we were wondering if they were ours. We saw our waitress pass by them SEVERAL times and then would just stand in a corner on her phone. Turns out , Those were our plates and they were only brought to us after one of our friends asked why food isn’t being brought out if it’s ready. My food was good but my fiancé’s fried fish was drenched and practically swimming in oil. He could not eat it. They also overcooked a friends tuna and he had to return it. This ENTIRE time our parents table was STILL waiting for their bottled water that they had asked for on arrival. I get the kitchen being busy but to not even be able to take water bottles after an hour or two says a lot. Our table also ordered an appetizer and the waitress did not tell us it wasn’t available so we ordered it. However, an hour passed and we had received the other appetizers so when we asked her she said they didn’t have anymore. The proper thing would have been to let us know herself earlier instead of having us wait. We asked to speak to the manager who excused the waitress bad behavior by saying that if we need something it is our job to make it known and not expect the waitress to do it. I completely disagree. The waitress should come and ask what we would like. He also blamed it on them being the only restaurant open and that they’re tired and want to go home . I fully understand that . However, in that case just tell us you are closed or no longer serving. We were seated at 8 and the restaurant closes at 10. Will never return here ever again. There were other tables that also left because they weren’t being served. Our waitress was the rudest I have ever...
Read moreMy wife and I ate here on 03-18-2025. The atmosphere is great, right along a canal. There aren't menus. You are told to scan a qr code as you walk in for the menu. We were at dinner early and there were plenty of tables available. We were seated right away and drink order was taken. Our order was taken quickly and the food arrived quickly as well. My meal was delicious, my wife said hers was just ok. The problem I have, is that our waitress just didn't come back. All the wait staff was sitting at a table in the main dining area mostly staring at their phones. From our initial drink/food order and delivering the food, she never came back to ask if we needed anything else. We finished our food quickly and just sat there, and sat there, and sat there watching the staff just sit on their phones. We wondered among ourselves if they would just let us sit there all night. When she finally walked by, (in hindsight I should have timed the wait.....it was really, really long) we were able to get the check. The food prices did not match the listed price on the menu, but were within a couple of dollars each. I was charged for my side that says it comes with the meal, while my wife wasn't. I was going to complain as the difference was about $12, but figured by the time I would get someone to assist that my time was worth more. I haven't been so tempted to not leave a tip in years, but decided to try to be the bigger person (or due I was trapped in the vicinity for...
Read moreOn a recent 3-day tour of the Spanish Virgin Islands we anchored offshore of Culebra. On the recommendation of a fellow sailor familiar with the area, we had our group from two catamarans dinghy the crews up the canal to dine at Mamacitas. So glad we did! It's a fun place, and a bit of an adventure to get there. Service was good, even for our large party.
We started with a margarita and the "Mamacitas Drink" (rum, juices, guava), both were very good. The table shared several appetizers, including coconut shrimp, grouper bites and croquets jamon (fried ham/cheese balls). The grouper bites and the croquets jamon were so good, we ordered a second round of each of those... deelish!
For entrees, the table ordered many different things, the ones we sampled were the red snapper filet, the mahi mahi filet, and the skirt steak. Sides included grilled veggies, fried yucca chips, plantains and salads. All the food was good, special tip of the cap to the red snapper filet, it was the best of the bunch.
It was a good dinner, enjoyed by all. The crews were happy that the recommendation turned out to be legit. Really cool thing at night, they turn the dock lights on and a group of huge tarpon fish congregate there and diners toss them food scraps. Probably not the best diet for the fish, but fun to watch! LOL Recommend Mamacitas in...
