Cute little cafe located in the heart of downtown Culpeper with some of the friendliest staff, coziest vibes, and largest scones I've ever seen. I stopped by Raven's Nest while on my way back to DC from a hiking trip in Shenandoah, and I was in desperate need of a cozy spot to read and fuel up on calories and caffeine before continuing my drive into the city. After seeing Raven's Nest on a few Shenandoah visitor's guides, I figured I might as well poke my head in. The barista was incredibly friendly and greeted me warmly, walked me through the menu / was super ready to answer any questions, and had the most calming, podcast-like voice. I ended up grabbing a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, and tomato on an English muffin, as well as a latte and earl grey scone.
I really enjoyed how cozy the vibes were, with the natural light flooding the entire space and the comfy couches / armchairs. I was a little bit less impressed by the food and drink, but it still hit the spot after a long week of trekking through the wilderness. The breakfast sandwich was solid and warm, but honestly not anything particularly fancy and not super worth the price (~$13). The latte was quite strong and definitely satisfied by caffeine craving, but it wasn't particularly flavorful. And finally, the scone, while massive (it was double the size of the breakfast sandwich), was a little bit too dry and sweet, and it didn't have a ton of earl...
Read moreI absolutely LOVE this place, and it’s honestly the best hub in all of Culpeper! If any business was looking for inspiration on how to strive in hospitality, the Raven’s Nest Coffee House sets the standards. When you first walk in you’re greeted by relaxing yet fun atmospheres of carefully placed eye-catching merchandise and decorations. The seating area gives one the feelings of that perfect secret hole in the wall you want to meet friends or a loved one at. The smells wafting in the air will always remind you of a cozy home, and the staff are not only super friendly but fun too! I highly recommend the Chai Tea Latte with Vanilla, it’s what I always get now and am absolutely hooked! The Quiche and Salmon Bagel are divine in the perfect blends of savory and indulgence. I tried the Lemon Bar and I think the recipe needs a bit of work as it was doughy with more of an acid taste than tart lemon. I am determined regardless to keep coming back to this awesome place just to have an excuse to get away from everything and enjoy a really excellent college vibe that fills me with comfort and nostalgia. You can’t get better customer service anywhere else, as the people working here put their hearts into the place and treat it as a...
Read moreCharming coffee house, with properly old and ratty seating, above average food (which they brought out to where I was sitting) and better than average coffee.
Met a friend here to chat, as it was midway between our distant homes. We both enjoyed our food. I was surprised that my smoked salmon bagel came with several slices of real, vine ripened, probably local tomato. The presentation was lovely and it was quite tasty. My friend got an iced latte, which had ice cubes made from coffee.
There was a dementia-friendly sticker on the front. Some folks were working, some teens were hanging around talking quietly without buying much (they weren't shooed off, which I appreciate - teens need safe places to hang, and they were being respectful of others). Large age range in clientele.
Definitely a keeper. When I'm out wandering around on my motorcycle, this will be on my list of good places to stop.
Downtown Culpepper, btw, has perfect slots for parking a motorcycle next to the flower boxes in some of the...
