Driving through Culpeper we saw this cafe and wanted to have the diner experience. It was an experience alright but not what you want or expect. Upon walking in, the waitress was loudly talking to her friends in a booth, made eye contact with me, paused and then proceeded to gossip and chat loudly with her friends. No greeting, no acknowledgement nothing. No, hi folks just take a seat and I’ll be with you in a minute. So we sat ourselves at a dirty booth and we waited and waited. No one came to clean the table and the waitress remained where she was gossiping and cackling like she was in her lounge room and had no customers to tend to. While we continued to wait, several customers who seemed to have been waiting a while too had to go up to the counter. Oh and so now she’s having another conversation with these customers. Who knows how long that chat was going to be. My husband and I decided to leave and it was the best decision. We went across the road where we were greeted upon entering the establishment, seated and offered water immediately. The food was delicious and wait staff attentive. As it should be. As a family owned business I’m surprised at how dismissive this waitress was to people she didn’t know. We are all your customers and should feel welcome coming into your business, even if you have to fake it. But hey, there were lots of eating establishments around so they’re benefiting from your...

Been here on two separate occasions. First was for breakfast with a party of four and we sat at a booth near the front window. Everyone ordered breakfast and I was delighted with the large portions at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is laid back and very casual. The second time I sat at the bar, they were fairly busy but definitely not a full house. The views at the bar showed a completely different story. I saw the cook touch food immediately after wiping down the chopping board with a towel. I saw another woman touching many things including a towel then restock tomatoes with her bare hand. The cook had his right hand gloved but never changed it so sort of pointless. The towels were never returned to thenwater basins. Their cold bin stayed open the entire 45mins I was there so i bet that wasn't kept at adequate temperature. I know, I know did i not have anything better to do but make a mental list of citations? No clearly not and having worked in the industry its a curse to know what is not being done correctly. Aside from that I ordered their old fashion fried chicken thinking this is a good ol country cafe they probably have a fantastic batter. It was not bad and it was cooked all the way through but ice cold in the center. All in all not the best not the worst the staff should just be aware that everyone can see their every move and some Aholes like me are...

Super cheap prices but great food and friendly employees w great service - definitely worth more than the price, better and cheaper than fast food, great old style diner food and atmosphere. Excellent when you want to sit and eat a great diner meal and/or don't have or want to spend much. Can make a great experience walking Old Town and checking out local shops while having a great place to stop for food on a budget friendly outing/day! As far as I know they still only accept cash - so make sure to have or use atm (there is one inside, but also banks nearby, one just around the corner), if needed, worth the surcharge if you don't bank with any in the area, the cheap cost of food worth it - makes up much more for the unbelievable prices. Great for kids, groups, alone, bar and table service - no alcohol - diner bar style if sitting at the bar. Perfect atmosphere for an old town experience, makes you feel like you're back in the 50s-60s - at least for a younger person, from what I've seen in movies in that time era lol. A perfect stop for a nostalgic feel and/or when you don't have much to spend. A little goes a long way and I've never been disappointed. Great portions, fun place to sit at the bar w my little one - (she loves that) for a meal during a nice budgeted fun day out. Have enjoyed every meal and dessert and my little...

Stepping into the Frost Cafe is like stepping into a time capsule. The place is smallish and it was a bit confusing when we first walked in because we weren't sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves or not. Folks who came in after us had the same dilemma. Finally one of the customers at the window counter, said, "I think you're supposed to seat yourselves". We thanked him and grabbed the only table that was open. Our waitress was cheerful as well as helpful with the menu. Husband ordered the patty melt with chip and I got the tuna melt (waitress' recommendation) with fries. Patty melt was excellent although the patties were much smaller than the bread. The chips were small (bottom of the bag?) and much too salty. The tuna melt was quite yummy but I don't recall grilled onions being listed on the menu so I had to pick those off. The fries were run-of-mill and we will skip them as well as the chips in the future. We'd love to give this place a try for breakfast the next we're in town early. *As others have noted, Frost Cafe only accepts cash - be prepared.*
