Update: I want to believe they were having an off day, however service was taking extremely long, products were not cooked well; overcooked or simply not as fresh as should be. The octopus on a molcajete del Mar was frozen dry. Not even the texture was there much less the flavor. While a molcajete del Mar seems appealing Molcajetes main appeal is for hot food, I expected something special but it was lacking seasoning, flavor and most of all freshness on octopus; it's suppose to have oysters according to the menu but there were none. Their meats molcajete is good but this seemed more like an overpriced coktel or campechana.
The shrimp rellenos were cooked dry, maybe premade and cooked once again, the rice was hard maybe from dryness ,not completely cooked or reheated too many times. They were struggling as far as service with almost full house, but service and teamwork seems flawed. I mention these things so you can improve and put forth the effort to provide better experience for customers. I rarely go on weekend and had only been during week for brunch and they seemed to handle the crowd well earlier in the day on Saturday.
Not sure what's going on but sure hope they're able to iron the details and be able to handle the crowds much better.
Old review: This place is great value, delicious, their service has always been good and gotten better. While I've tried various items from carne asada tacos, to Costello, to fajitas lately at least the last 2 times I had their tacos de barbacoa.
I was about to order a molcajete which seem to be new items on the menu however I recalled the tacos were to die for and wanted to confirm if they're spectacular or they had a fluke.
The tacos ended tasting better than I recall. They are so soft and juicy without drowning and sogging the tortilla to point it breaks. The only weakness is the tortilla however since they heat them up properly its a split second I get a whiff of scent they give off. If not heated properly I could not eat type of tortillas. The calamari was pretty good but not as tasty as previous time. This may have been prebatterred or store bought but still delicious.
The barbacoa dish you can get 3 tacos beans and rice or 4 tacos and no beans no rice. Since I had the calamari I opted for the 4 tacos.
Those tacos...
Read moreThe food was delicious. If my review was based on that alone, it would be 5 stars. However, the service was frustrating. Our server was inattentive and not very friendly. While I don't expect all servers to be bubbly and outgoing, I do expect Civility and courtesy. She was short in her answers with us and almost seemed like we were putting her out with simple requests. She also had a very difficult time understanding what we were asking for, and when I asked for explanation on something she only spoke to me in Spanish. Now, I'm all for the bilingual community, but when the restaurant is in a predominantly English speaking town, I would expect the servers to be able to speak English to their English-speaking customers. Also, the restaurant's sign out front said that kids for only $0.99 on Mondays and Wednesdays. The server failed to mention that it was only for certain items. Furthermore, the kid's menu did not note that it was for certain items, so when it came time for the bill I was shocked at the price of our dinner. It would have been nice for the establishment to make it clear what is for $0.99, as the Marquee out front is misleading. Lastly, the restaurant smelled horrible...like a mixture of dirty mop water and backed-up plumbing. It was quite a turn off. Despite the delicious food, I would not recommend...
Read moreHorrible experience. On 9/8 we went in for lunch at 1:00 p.m. There were only a few tables with patrons at this time of day. A waitress came and took our drink order (1water, 1 Diet Coke and a 2 for 1 margarita). We also ordered queso at this time. Waitress came back with two waters only. 10 minutes later another waitress showed up and asked us about drinks we again asked for a Diet Coke and the margaritas as well as a reminder for queso. We had her take our lunch order at this time. Our lunch came out and the waitress asked me to check if my order was correct because there were two chimichangas cooked and the cook wasn’t sure which one was which. We also asked for a side of sour cream and had to remind the waitress of our request. The waitress never came back to check on us. After finishing our meals and the bus boy cleaning the table we sat another 7 minutes waiting for a check. I finally went to the register to pay and waited another 5 minutes while their credit machine wouldn’t process the previous sale. I asked about running a hard copy of my credit card so we could pay. The waitress said this wasn’t an option. Thankfully I had enough cash to pay for the bill. We will...
