We're delighted to have Mediterranean food in Dahlonega again. We miss Capers on the Square, since they left Dahlonega a few years back, and the next best and closest is Baba's, in Cumming, or Alpha Gyro in Gainesville.
Baba Ganoush is my favorite taste to compare across restaurants as it does vary so much. As I understand, it is eggplant fired over an open flame. The seasonings are plentiful and intricate. 30 years ago (!) I worked for a five-star chef who explained his process takes two full days to complete; I always compare to his. Pharaoh's is the best I have tasted since then, and the only one that has even come close. It might even be the best I've tasted! I taste complexity and deep flavors. It is creamy, there may have been some artichoke, I noticed a smoky flavor. This is in contrast to watery, unimpressive, or simply flavorless versions we have had elsewhere. My teenagers loved it, and in the past they have actually turned up noses in contrast with other restaurants' Baba Ganoush. Pharaoh's owner, an engineer who also designed the open concept kitchen, explained their Baba Ganoush method is Syrian. The dish reflects in taste the area it mimics culturally - Egyptian, Israeli, Syrian, or otherwise.
My family was not hungry for a full meal so we focused on dessert and coffee otherwise and will be back to try it all, including the family kabob deal, the pita sandwich offerings, the other desserts, and so on. We loved the dessert and coffee. Pistachios are prominent thought and the chocolate as well as baklava were very much up to par, even beyond expectation on the chocolate pistachio and chocolate filled bar. Let's give them the business to survive! They deserve it and our bodies deserve...
Read moreMy husband and I had the absolute best experience here this afternoon for lunch!
It was our first time visiting and immediately after walking in we were greeted with such kindness from the owner.
He recommended us a steak platter and said he would surprise us and that we would love it and he was right!
The food truly blew us away and I kept constantly saying I felt like I was in heaven while eating because everything tasted so high quality and the flavors were amazing. We had a side of rice each and pita bread with a bunch of dipping sauces. They even gave us sides of greek salad which was very fresh! Everything was delicious!
Not just the food, but the service here was what made us truly fall in love. The husband and wife team here is just so endearing. They were so respectful to everyone that came in and you could feel how much they genuinely love what they do and that was so special to see. You can’t help but want to support a family like that.
On top of everything, the owner was so excited it was our first time and kept giving us free samples of the desserts and appetizers! He gave us a free order of the Sambosa which was so crispy and had a cheese filing that just melted in your mouth. He also gave us some of the phenomenal homemade desserts at the front counter which had similar ingredients to Dubai Chocolate! I even bought a Dubai chocolate bar from their fridge section to take home.
I can’t say enough good things about this place and I recommend everyone to try it out and share in such a special dining experience.
I’m so glad Dahlonega has this new wonderful addition and I can’t wait to...
Read moreThis is probably a me thing, I ordered a Gyro Wrap and a coke today for lunch, to eat inside the restaurant, the service was very fast, and friendly, the place was very clean. I just got some paperwork notarized next door, so I decided to try them, as I love Gyro's. But the Lamb Gyro Wrap tasted a little too garlicy for my taste, and the tahini sauce was put onto the pita bread first, and then the meat was put on top of that. So what I got was a very soggy pita, and dry meat. I get Gyro's a lot, and never have I seen it served like that. Nor taste that much garlic. My first bite, even before I tasted the garlic, I was struck by how soggy the pita was. It really surprised me. I touched the inside of the wrap, and it was the pita that was soggy. The inside of the pita was soft and mushy. Three bites in, the very high garlicky taste and the sogginess of the pita, and the dry meat got to me, and I threw it away and walked out. Again, this might be a me thing, but again, I get Gyro's a lot from another restaurant in town, and it has never had a strong garlicky taste, or been soggy. Also, per Pharaoh's Feast's web site online, the Gryo Wrap should come with the Tahini sauce on the side, I would have loved to get it that way. I could have put the sauce on myself, on top...
