I had a hankering for some Mexican food so I stopped in for the first time and was satisfied with what I found. Staff was very patient with me while I slowly looked over and ordered my food from the overhead counter menu; so many delicious options to choose from and I wanted to sample them all!
I opted for a coupla bistec tacos, a flauta, rice and beans, guacamole, and chips n' salsa. Adding a burrito would have taken me over the edge!
While waiting for my order I visited the small 'salsa bar' to find some toppings that wouldn't be too spicy and sipped on my Modelo. Unfortunately, there was no pico de gallo at the salsa bar, only tubs of cilantro/onion, cabbage, and three pump stations with mystery salsas; I gathered the green was a mild tomatillo, the next a mild creme-based sauce, and finally a red that was too hot for me!
When my order number was announced, I returned to the counter and had to place the 5-6 styrofoam containers on a provided tray to take back to my table. I despise the environmental impact of styrofoam (esp for dining in) but that's a side point. Each item ordered was 'plated' separately.
I enjoyed my meal while listening to Latin music overhead. The dining area was acceptable: clean and not crowded together.
The tacos were delicious; the bistec was tender and juicy and the double corn tortillas didn't fall apart while I slowly loaded up each taco with additional toppings and lovingly devoured them. The rice and beans weren't that great so I used them for the tacos and chips. Guacamole was essentially mashed avocado... no tomato, onion, cilantro, or spices.
All in all, it wasn't a bad find on Harry Hines and the
Read moreAs an old white guy, I have no real authority on tacos. I was born in 64. Taco Bell is what I was brought up on, and my parents love a taco from Jack in The box. So honestly, I know nothing. What I will say is that the tacos here are outstanding. I had two fajita beef, corn tacos and two pork al pastor tacos. Remember white guy, not brave enough to try beef tongue, cactus tacos or other variations. So I chose two of each. My mouth was in heaven. The fajita beef is just amazing. Not too spicy. Not too bland just perfectly balanced. No grease. Just awesome liquid coming off of a perfectly cooked beef. The Taco El pastor was great also and there was a trio of sauces on the table to bring the spice up a bit if needed. This place is so friendly, it is immaculately clean and it is a spot on Harry Hines that's worth stopping. I work for a company and one of the lead technicians brought me here and I am so thankful. I will make this a weekly stop and I can't wait to try their breakfast tacos. So when you driving down Harry Hines and wondering is that taqueria worth it, the answer is yes. The parking lot will be packed which should be tell you something but just head in the door and order a a plate or a few tacos and I think you'll...
Read moreFood is not the problem here its the lack of English speaking associates. I had. Issues with the pricing being incorrect on the menu and I was over charged. None of the workers spoke English when time to correct a issue yet they all spoke fine English for for every thing else. I've been eating here since 2016 and never had this problem til today. I had to ask another customer to translate for me and since a large portion was just 75 cents more I went into my pocket for my wallet and the lady helping as well as the lady taking my order jumped like I had a weapon. I paid got my food and left but I will never come back kenia just lost you a loyal...
