Be prepared to escape back into a place of nostalgia as soon as you enter the restaurant. If the shelf inches away from the ceiling filled with bottles in the shapes and images of popular cartoon characters from 70s and 80s don't make you reminisce, perhaps the cash register manufactured in the 60s will (only cash is accepted).
The Mexican decor is nice, and the live band walking Wednesday walking from table to table singing a tune in Spanish is cool.
The food is great. They have the best Tex-Mex enchiladas and tacos I've had in Dallas. The spicy salsa is a must try! The salsa is so spicy, and eaten atop of a chip with butter and a few sprinkles of salt is awesome sauce.
The decor and register isn't the only blast from the past they have to offer, the prices are pretty old school too.
The service is fast and friendly.
One last thing, the plates are piping HOT! Be careful with those.
This place is a must try.
Enjoy!

Read moreWe arrived around 7pm on a Friday night. It's obviously a long standing establishment. The owner, or perhaps he was the owner, was very nice. Only part of our group ordered meals. I had a slice of "cheesecake" as it was the only dessert that wasn't sold out; it wasn't real cheesecake. It was more like a freezer isle cheesecake type dessert. I will NEVER order their cheesecake again!!
The restaurant wasn't crowded. We were waited on promptly in spite of our group not being complete. The employees were nice and friendly. We weren't rushed, nor did they seem bothered by the young children running around, and getting up and down from the table.
I didn't look at the menu other than the desserts, but they didn't flinch when 1 of the children only ordered bacon. (I was actually shocked that a Mexican restaurant served bacon, along with having cheesecake and carrot cake on their menu.) When it comes to beverages coke, e.t.c come in a can, which I'd never seen in...
Read morewhenever i'm in dallas visiting my grandmother, we make it out to el taquitos at least every single day! the breakfast is out of control good, and i always get the breakfast burrito with potato, egg, and cheese. the fantastic refried beans and fluffly, tasty rice that is nearly as good as what my grandmother makes (but not quite;-)) makes for a divine way to begin the day. the enchiladas are delicious, and my whole family loves their ranchera sauce; we always order a few extra bowls of it for chips and everything else. the service is always fast and friendly, the food delicious and plentiful, and we feel welcome there with our kids. i am from dallas, and few things remind me of how much i love the city like eating at el taquitos with my wife and kids, my grandmother, and my father.
also, bonus, el taquitos features an awesome collection of nifty shampoo and bubble bath bottles that are shaped like various superheroes and...
