This place is fantastic. I had been to the original location and loved it so much that I took my wife to this new location on our anniversary! We are both obsessed with street tacos and quesadillas, and Mami Coco has quickly made its way to the top of the list when it comes to getting the best of those two items. I highly recommend the chicharrĂłn quesadilla or tacos, and also the bistek. My wife also absolutely loved the chicken beast. The green salsa is tremendous, and the red is great too, but be prepared for some serious heat with the red one.
The quesadilla is cooked perfectly, and reminded me of something I had eaten from a food cart in Mexico 15 years ago. I had been looking for those flavors ever since, and finally found them again at Mami Coco. I told the owner, Gustavo, and he said that for him, food is all about memories. He told me that he tries to recreate the flavors he remembers from road trips with his dad. It was honestly very moving. Gustavo took great care of us, and was very diligent in making sure our food came out just right. As he wanted to be sure everything was running smoothly at his new location. We had the best time, and enjoyed some of the best food either of us have tasted in a while.
I can't recommend a place...
Read moreTacos were decent, the pastor was what you would expect from like a family cookout, I think if they charred it a bit more it would be better. The pastor was a little on the drier side but it wasn't a deal breaker.
The salsa was SOOOO good. The salsa rojo was spicy enough to make me be careful with how much i put on the taco. The salsa verde was so good and savory that I ran out by the time I got halfway through my plate.
The tortillas aren't all that good, they used white maiz tortillas, which are kind of bland. I would recommend they use yellow maiz but that is just my preference, and that they would toast them a bit in the lard from the grill so that get a bit more crispy.
The reason this review got three stars was because of the wait and the lack of onions and cilantro on my taco. I think I waited 25 minutes for 4 tacos with only 1 other person in the restaurant with me. They don't take online orders so I don't know what took so long, but i was getting impatient. Compared to other taco places, I would rank this as slightly above average.
The food could use some more thought, the salsa is great, the service needs improvement. For $2 a taco,...
Read moreWhen you can finish your taco in 2 bites, the tortilla is too small and too expensive , $2.50 each, thats $1.25 per bite. I had to intentionally take smaller bites to make it last. The barbacoa could have had more flavor, and more meat. Thatâs too expensive regardless of taste. We also ordered quesadillas but you have to order the plate b/c they wonât do just one.
I tasted all the meats, the barbacoa was overly cooked to where it no longer had chunks of meat, but rather strings of meat. Not a good harmony when you bite into it. The shredded beef was dry and a flavor Iâve never experienced before, I didnât care for it, the fajita was perfect and the chicken quesadilla was tasty.
Taco Tuesday has limitations, no barbacoa, no lengua, no fajita (I believe).
I might go back, but right around them are many other options to try out first until you find that one that becomes your ânew spot.â
The lady up front, the order taker, was great. Friendly and...
