I am sure you have heard of all the trendy fried chicken places (Mike's, Babes), but consider if you will, a marinated whole chicken grilled over hardwood mesquite coals. This gem comes with traditional Mexican rice and borracho beans. Breaking it down for you the chicken is cooked on a grill located just outside the front door. For the dude running the grill, this cook was a full contact sport. The parilla master never stopped moving. He was managing 10 full spatchcocked birds and checking a second grill whose only purpose was to burn wood. The parilla master would turn and check a searing bird, partially blackened was par for the course. Then he would check the fire and port over chunks of wood from a second grill. Check the birds, adjust the fire. Repeat. The result is a tangy wood smoked delight. The rice was light, and fluffy, your abuelita would have nodded her approval. The borracho beans, oh man, where do I start... well your pot of beans are an economic indicator of sorts. In good times you will find the batch filled with a working mans bounty, bacon, chopped hot dogs, onions, tomato bits...and whole jalapenos. We tejanos by god, we do not shy away from heat of any kind. Oh and add some beer to the pot. Borracho...you get it. This pot of beans was a working man's dream. In summary as ate this wonderful meal it occurred to me that at that very moment there were kings and despots who weren't eating as...
Read moreThe food is great, it’s traditional, authentic Mexican food. The service however, I went in last night with my husband, there was a girl at the entrance, we looked at her a bit disoriented, as we did not know if we were to be seated, or if someone would seat us, and as soon as I glanced at her, she very rudely, swung her finger, and pointed toward the tables with a very unwelcoming face. We ignored the unwelcoming as we were getting off of work and we were very hungry. Our waitress took our order and even though she did not have a great attitude, the service was fine and the food was delicious. However, once we took our bill to pay our tab at the register, the girl who had originally given us an unwelcoming welcome took our payment. When it was time to sign my receipt, I told her the pen was not working. She rolled her eyes at me, grabbed the same pen, scribbled on it until it worked and threw it at me as if I was some sort of inconvenience because the pen was not working. She didn’t say two words to me while she took my payment and I walked out of there feeling bugged and bothered. I’m so sorry her bad attitude took over the delicious food we had. My suggestion would be to find somebody else to welcome customers into the store. Because aside from the fact that she’s rude she’s also not pretty at all and the image of the store for me and mine is now...
Read moreWish I could review what the food was like, but I never got to try it. Came in at about 12:20 pm while waiting on a car repair on my lunch break. Restaurant was not busy, maybe 2-3 tables. Waitress told me to sit anywhere. I ordered (three flautas lunch special) at about 12:25, after she brought me my drink, chips, and salsa. Then I proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. Eventually it was 12:45 and with no sign of my flautas, I had to pick up my car and head back to work since I only get an hour lunch break. As I was going to pay, one waitress motions to the kitchen and tells me that my flautas are ready now. I'm like, OK, but I still have to leave now because my lunch break is over. Hopefully someday I'll be in the area again to give this place another shot, but I'll make sure to have plenty of extra time to waste, just in case.
Chips were good. Salsa...
