Very disappointing! Overpriced and not very authentic.
The croissants (plain and almond) were way too heavy and doughy, like another reviewer commented. And $5.00 is more than I've ever paid in Paris for, of course, a croissant par excellence. As for the baguette, the crust was too soft and the texture was very chewy. We also tried the Kouign Amann, which had too much of the butter baked out of it, and what was left was way too sugary. But the worst of all, and most unforgivable, was the $10.00 piece of "Basque" Cheesecake. We've had true Basque Cheesecake in several cities in Spain and it has ALWAYS been delectably creamy inside (barely set), with a wonderful caramelized top. What we got from East Bay Bakery was very dense, very eggy tasting and had no burnt top. And again, $10.00?! This is more than we paid (recently) at a top restaurant in Madrid for Basque Cheesecake for dessert!
On the plus side, the service at East Bay Bakery was fine and everything in the store seemed very clean and what we ordered did seem fresh. But we came for awesome baked goods and were left really very...
Read moreThe minute I stepped in, I knew it was love at first sniff. The overwhelming desire to buy everything came over me (and luckily, we nearly did since I was in good company).
So, whoever didn't rate this bakery 5 stars is out of their gourd because a lot of love and care went into their baked goods, and you can taste it. The bread and Croissants are the perfect balance between crisp and flake. The consistency is just right, and the flavor is absolutely delicious! Their ability to maintain the perfect balance of sweet and savory is impressive since it's not easy to do.
I also really liked the customer service here. The staff works hard but at the same time manages to juggle customers gracefully while being attentive.
I think the prices are very fair, especially considering the quality of baked goods!
If you haven't tried this place yet, go on over and give it a try. You will not be...
Read moreI am a new fan of this bakery. Let me preface this. My family have our own two bakeries in the San Jose area. They have a phenomenal reputation for quality and my opinion of this East Bay bakery will be complementary to our expectations. I give them a five star for the quality of their baked goods And so far what I have sampled has been excellent. The layers in the croissants are phenomenal and the taste is yummy. I have tried it three times and have found it to be very consistent. I will consistently come by and pick up some baked goods often. The only thing I wish they had was longer hours during the Week But the day that they do have long hours I will just have to wait till then or hit him up on the weekend in the morning as they will run out very quickly so thank you and looking forward to doing...
