My dining companion and I had high hopes for this restaurant, having seen quite attractive photos of food presentation shared by Facebook acquaintances and having been impressed by the variety of cuisines offered on the menu. The restaurant decor was fun and showed signs of care taken. Our server was likewise agreeable: friendly, helpful, and very efficient. Everything that we were served was piping hot, which is more than we can say for many restaurants. Unfortunately, the experience went rapidly downhill from these initial impressions.
Our "Thai coconut chicken soup" appetizers had almost no flavor and barely reminded us of the tom kha gai on which we figured it was based. At $7.95 per cup-sized portion, it was a huge ripoff as well. Never have I seen so many onions in such a small serving of soup of this nature, either! The chicken in the soup was undercooked to the point of some of the larger pieces being inedible. Disappointing.
My Thai red curry dish looked promising, and the sauce did have a bit more flavor than anything else that we ordered. However, it could still be described as bland beyond what sriracha or other condiments could fix. The mixed vegetable blend was very onion-heavy, and it featured one memorably odd element: what appeared to be tater tots. Again, though, the chicken was undercooked, and the larger pieces didn't seem safe to eat as a result. $16.95 seemed a fair price to pay for the portion size had all of the chicken been edible and the dish been more flavorful as a whole.
My dining companion's Pad Thai entree was "among the worst" versions of this dish that she has had: once again with very little flavor, filled with onions beyond any reasonable standard, and featuring more undercooked chicken. The portion size was generous for the $15.95 charge, but that isn't worth much when the food is bland beyond description and the chicken is of questionable safety.
The sushi menu is of impressive length and description, so that may well be where this restaurant could shine. Not being well versed in sushi, I will leave those options for others to review. However, for Thai favorites, we will be sticking with our local favorite Moon River Thai restaurant on North Main Street. Pangea simply doesn't hold a...
Read moreThe Good: The sushi was decent though a bit overpriced. My wife ordered the salmon sushi / sashimi for $6 but it doesn’t specify that it’s only 2 pieces. I ordered the Black Dragon Roll and it was decent. I also have to say that the atmosphere is very nice and the seating arrangement isn’t too crowded.
The Bad: the service. We had a large group and wanted to check it out because we heard good things about this place. They open at noon at we arrived early. They let us in early and we we let the only group. Eventually we all placed our orders and while waiting we saw other people come in, sit down, order, eat, pay their bill and leave.
Over an hour later we finally get our food. A bunch of us ordered the French Fillet Mignon and only one of them was cooked right. It includes rice and they forgot to bring that along, but it was a bit dry and undercooked. I would have asked them to fix my steak but I did t want to wait another hour. We also had to ask for utensils. One server finally came over with “utensils” and started handing out chopsticks. I told her we needed forks and knives for the steak.
Another member of our group ordered the Pad Thai. The noodles were wet and soggy and had lacked peanuts or any spice. Some others in my group were satisfied with their entrees, but they were disappointed with appetizers. It was obvious the spring rolls and siomai were not fresh but just frozen foods.
In the end from arriving early to getting our food and then paying the bill we were there 2 and...
Read moreAbout a month ago I had the worst meal I've ever had here and I still can't stop thinking about it. My boyfriend and I split the sushi, which was actually pretty good for the area. He ordered steak hibachi and I had the Pad Thai. My food sat down with an intensely fishy odor. I am not a picky person and I don't mind fish, but this was overwhelming. The chicken looked boiled and it was served with red onions, linguine noodles, and green onions. It was very different from any Pad Thai I have had. I took two bites and truly could not take anymore. I politely requested that my food be taken back and asked if there was any way it could be removed from the check. Our waitress left with my food - who was fine, a bit inattentive but polite. A manager returned and told me they would not take it off the menu and would only exchange my meal for something else. They did not even bother to ask what specifically I did not like. After saying no thank you, they eventually brought our check with a gift card. I don't plan to use it. I really wanted to like this place and will admit that it had potential. The sushi was good, but my boyfriend's hibachi was mid. I'd just suggest ordering local...
