The first visit here was over Christmas since we live in Denver. Tonight was a visit to celebrate a friend's birthday.
First visit: we tried the crab dip and it was PHENOMENAL. It's a bit heavy with all the cream and cheese, but who's counting calories when you're looking for fantastic, Southern, Gulf Coast seafood? My entrée then was Shrimp & Grits and it was excellent. I left feeling really heavy, like I should've stopped eating the dish earlier than I did, but I had no regrets.
Tonight, however, I tried the Redfish which comes with jalapeño cream cheese grits, crawfish succotash and collard greens. It blew me away. The redfish was wonderful and cooked perfectly. The flavors were bold and complemented each other so well. Best of all: I didn't feel heavy and bloated like I did the time before. It was well balanced without being too heavy in the belly. We finished the meal with the blueberry crumble dessert that's topped with Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream. Wow.
Also, can't go wrong with the cocktail I had tonight. It was a Blackberry* Mule (or “Berry Mule,” can’t recall the specific name) but I upped the vodka choice to Grey Goose instead of the Tito's. Perfect. Y'all keep on keepin' on, this place is...
Read moreDefinitely a 10 on 10 experience. You want fine dining with great taste? This is the place to go. We had a guest visit the city and we were looking for a place for dinner. A friend suggested Southwood Kitchen. This was by far a great recommendation. We ordered a few different options of appetizers to share because they all we're very appealing. The alligator boudain balls were a slam dunk with everyone at the table. Our waiter was fantastic. We asked about the history of the establishment and he informed us this restaurant has been open for about 5 years and that directly across the alley there is a secondary location that is more casual dining. Our main dishes were the ribeye, steak and chicken. Their duck fat potatoes there are no words that can express how incredibly delicious they were. For cocktails we all enjoyed a couple old-fashion's that definitely hit the spot. As for desserts this restaurant is very smart to save a hidden gem till the end. It's not advertised on the menu at all and is strategically a great talking point for the staff. So I'll keep the allure. But I will say try and save room for dessert because it was absolutely worth...
Read moreI have eaten around the world and in almost every state. Tonight I had what I think is the best meal of my life. And my girlfriend concurs with this opinion First of all, the service was awesome. Reynold was our server and worked to make sure our experience was fantastic. He was funny, polite, and helpful. He was there when we needed him, and left us to ourselves when he wasn’t. His recommendations were also spot on. For appetizers we had the squash blossoms and the hot crab dip. Both were delicious. I can highly recommend both. For entrees my girlfriend had the diver scallops. They were cooked perfectly. I had the elk tenderloin. It was absolutely the most tender meat I have ever had. It dissolved in my mouth. I would eat this every opportunity I get. And finally dessert. WOW!! She ordered the cheesecake. I had the white chocolate bread pudding. Both were made perfectly. The cream brûlée cheesecake was so creamy and light. With a nice sugar top that is not too thick. But the winner was the bread pudding. Not overly sweet. Moist with a great crunchy crust. This is now our go too restaurant. Especially for special events. I can’t say how highly I...
