I ordered a Philly cheesesteak with extra cheese.
First and least: To me, it was not extra cheese. It seemed like a perfectly normal amount of cheese. If that’s how they do it, bless ‘em. IMO, a cheesesteak with extra cheese should be everything but jokingly cheesy. I believe the cook just didn’t care, they took my upcharge and they put the normal amount of cheese.
Also, do not ever put canned mushrooms on my sandwich. It’s not for everyone, fresh ones aren’t that much more expensive, I’ll pay for them. IMO canned is disgusting and/or nothing similar to fresh in taste.
My real problem is how they wrapped the sandwich. All the cheese was face up on the sandwich in contact with the wrapper. So, when I opened the sandwich, all the cheese came off the sandwich and globbed onto the cheap wrap. It’s mozzarella, so it really glued on, and this was that cheap disintegrating aluminum lined wrap so I spent a lot of time removing the cheese with my fingers and placing it back onto the sandwich. I lost a good amount of cheese to the wrapper, unsalvageable. So I got, what was IMO, less cheese than a typical amount on my CHEESESTEAK ordered with EXTRA cheese, and it all stuck to the wrapper. A real letdown.
I would have been fine with the cheese amount and the mushrooms, given this place a 4 out of 5. I WANT to give this place a 2 because of how my eating experience was with the cheese situation. However, it’s more due to a lack of thought, not a lack of care, and I think 2 is more for places I wouldn’t trust...
Read moreI met a friend here. He suggested the location and said they had the best cheesy Italian beef sandwiches. I'm a person willing challenge that claim. It seems like a simple sandwich to make and there are different takes on this classic sandwich. They do serve other items, I happen to be here to take part in tasting their beef sandwiches. The place is nice friendly joint. Decorated very fast food style simple and straight forward detailing what the place is. The neighborhood local spot feel to it.
The wait time was normal and wasn't long of a wait to have food prepared. I like the fact that the grill is next to where you order so that you can watch the cook do their craft. I enjoy places that you can watch your food being prepared by a master of the grill.
The fries were nice and crispy. Just right not over fried. The beef was dipped. I used to not like my sandwiches dipped, buyt now I has taken a liken to dipped version so you can taste the the au jus/ beef broth. It was perfectly dipped, not too heavy that it's soggy, just the right amount. The beef was nice and tender not dry at all.
I definitely enjoyed this spot. I would definitely revisit and order other items on the menu. I'll definitely recommend this place for anyone to try once, twice or more... I don't see anyone being...
Read moreThis place has one of the best Italian beefs in the Chicago area, hands down! The meat is sliced on the thinner side and is delicious. The beef is served on fresh Turano bread and they soak it real nice with delicious juice. The giardinera is home made deliciousness, I had their beef twice now and am hooked! The Italian sausage is one of the best I've had and with that layer of gravy at the bottom, oh man, damn good! I ordered the double burger with no veggies so I could get a true taste of the meat and not only did they nail it as medium rare as requested, the burger was huge and my big appetite couldn't finish it! The meat is tasty and addictive, Teddy's is now one of...
