Gumbo Restaurant — Restaurant in Dartmouth

I have been a loyal customer of Gumbos for nearly 20 years, visiting at least twice a month, sometimes even three times. However, my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed.

Last week, I placed an order for a combination plate, which typically includes pork fried rice. Upon returning home, I noticed the fried rice was missing from my order. Inconvenienced, I drove 25 minutes back to the restaurant in the rain, only to park down the street and walk to the counter.

When I explained the issue to the woman at the takeout counter, she insisted that my order did not include pork fried rice. I had paid $31.50 for the meal, which included sweet and sour shrimp priced at $13.85, with an additional charge to replace the egg roll with more shrimp, and order a small house fried rice. Despite paying well over the standard price for this meal, I was told I would need to pay an additional $13.00 for the missing fried rice!

What surprised me most was the lack of care or assistance from the staff. Even the owner’s wife, who was present at the counter, made no effort to resolve the situation or address my concerns. Instead, I was left feeling dismissed and unvalued as a long-time customer.

I have never written a negative review about any business, but this experience was unacceptable. The poor customer service and unwillingness to address the mistake have completely turned me off from this establishment. Finally, a young girl from the kitchen gave me a small container of rice. The women at the counter just walked away and said nothing.

Beware when ordering your food from them.

First of all my dad and stepmom go to Gumbos once a week, usually on Sundays. So that should say something right there. It is also me and my husband's favorite sit down Chinese restaurant. The food is always delicious! Everything from the pupu platters, to appetizers, to generals tso chicken, rice, Lo-mein is excellent...all the food is great and that's why I come from Fall River to eat here. The prices are very fair and well worth every penny. The staff are always very pleasant and greet you as soon as you walk in. Debbie is a fantastic waitress and does an excellent job as she gets whatever you need In a very timely manner, she's always so pleasant and always smiling, and she runs around that place to make sure all the customers are taken good care of. Lee is also an excellent staff member, very pleasant and takes good care of her customers. I could go on and on about this establishment, but I'll just say if I could give more than 5 stars I would. If you haven't been here, I would put that on your "to do" list! Keep up the great work Gumbos! A loyal customer forever. Kala...Chriss and...

Foods good, Ive been coming for years. The white woman that works there, the one answering the phone and taking orders is extremely rude. All the other staff is very friendly. But the other woman is so unpleasant it turns me off from even going there. I wish I knew her name. I mean she's the only white woman that works there so I'm sure it isn't that hard to figure it out. Customer service and how we are treated really makes a difference in how we remember our experience at any place. So yes I like the food, it's nothing to rave about, but when I think of Gumbos my first thought is how that woman rubbed off on me. It wasn't a one time thing it's happened but it seems over time maybe she is just unhappy with her job. Not everyone loves their job but when you're in customer service you fake it because it's not about how much you love your job. Main priority should be making the customers experience a good one.
