We were lied to 3 times when we ordered our pizza last night. ~6:40 PM we called in a simple carryout order of 2 pizzas and were told there would be a 50 minute wait time (lie 1).
We showed up about 50 minutes later, paid for our order, and (after we paid of course) were told “We only have half our ovens functioning at the moment so we haven’t gotten to it yet, we will get it started for you so it will be another 20-25 minutes (lie 2). Feel free to hang around and wait.” Having already paid, we decided to stay and wait.
Roughly 40 minutes later our food was still not ready so we decided to ask somebody working for a status update on our order - he went back into the kitchen for awhile and then came back out and said “It’s currently baking in the oven and should only be another 10 minutes (lie 3)”. Having waited so long already, we just decided to stick it out.
About 25 minutes later (conveniently the time it takes to prepare and fully bake a pizza according to lie number 2, making it fully apparent that lie 3 was most definitely a lie) we get handed our pizza without acknowledgement or apology. We left promptly without complaining simply because we were very hungry, had been waiting at the store for an hour and 10 minutes for a carryout order (in addition to the initial 50 minute wait) and simply wanted to get home and eat as it was now 8:40 PM.
I have no issues with the fact that they may have had damaged equipment as that is completely out of staff control. I also fully understand that this would impact wait times.
Ignoring the fact that they didn’t call to warn us the pizza hadn’t even been started before we showed up to the store, and extending them the full benefit of the doubt in assuming that the equipment malfunctioned after our initial call, one can still be certain that the staff knew they were lying when communicating wait times afterwards - and that is why I am giving a 1 star review.
I have read in other reviews that Bad Boyz frequently makes excuses when customers raise issues and never admit fault, so who even knows if the malfunctioning oven story was true - nevertheless, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt.
It’s too bad that we had this experience as my family has always enjoyed Bad Boyz pizza, we believe the quality is second to none in the Quad Cities at their price point. Even after our wait issues the pizza was still delicious.
At the end of the day, I just can’t support a business that knowingly lies to their customers so we will not...
Read moreIt's been the better part of a decade since I've been to Bad Boy'z Pizza on Utica. I liked going to this location when I was still in school in the area, but hadn't returned since leaving the area for work in Eastern Illinois. Now that I'm back and checking out pizza places again, I felt it was time to try Bad Boy'z once more.
The interior of their new Utica Ridge Road space is much the same as the one they moved from - a plain concrete slab on the floor, black tiles drop ceiling, and red and black painted walls through most of the rest of the space. Lighting is supplied from a combination of recessed fixtures in the ceiling and hanging barn pendant fixtures through part of the space. The overall vibe works well with the outlaw/criminal theming - dark and moody. It all ties together well.
I opted for a simple two topping pizza (just pepperoni and spicy sausage) for this visit. The pizza was out to me within 20 minutes of ordering. I was honestly just a little worried - I had forgotten the pizza bears many of the visual traits of other Quad Cities style pizza. Strip cuts, toppings under the cheese...I wasn't sure it was going to work for me (I'm not the biggest fan of the style). Fortunately, many of the drawbacks of the typical Quad Cities pie were not present here. The sausage used was in discreet chunks (not the crumbly stuff) which probably kept the crust from getting saturated with grease. This was confirmed with my first slice - the crust has plenty of structural integrity to it, a must for a pizza cut into strips. Even though the toppings were placed under the cheese, they were still adequately cooked through and tasted well seasoned. It wasn't my favorite pie, but it was still an enjoyable experience.
The noise level of the space was a bit much for me. This wasn't due to anything really controllable by Bad Boy'z - rather, it was just really busy when I happened to visit (Friday nights should be, really). I'll probably refrain from a return visit until the warmer parts of the year when the patio is open so as to avoid another noisy evening. Thanks Bad Boy'z for...
Read moreSo my daughter decided to wait until the last minute and plan a surprise birthday party for her fiance. She called Wednesday to this restaurant which they indicated would work with us being in several tables. It was last minute for her planning so they did a great job. Our group had to have more than 20+ people show up. When I arrived with the three I brought, three tables were already occupied for our group. We took a fourth, fifth and six. They were great on keeping up all the beer/pop orders. We ordered four pizzas to start with. Basic ones - one pepperoni, one sausage, one vege and one meat lovers. Pepperoni disappeared really quick so we did end up getting another one of those. The service was great as they set it up where several waitresses were helping out so someone was coming by off and on to see if anyone needed more of anything. I believe this is tavern cut, but don't quote me on the cut style names. I love all pizzas thing, original, pan, new york, chicago, detroit etc. This pizza was great as not soggie or dry and had plenty of toppings!!! If you are looking for a place to watch game and have pizza/drink, this is a...
