Worst service experience of my life.A friend and I decided to go have brunch from there based on the reviews. I ordered a medium combination with rice and beans. She ordered an omelet with onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, gravy and extra bacon with cheese. Cool. Let's start off with the margarita I ordered. I specifically asked for sugar at the top and don Julio instead of the cheap tequila that they use. When they brought my drink. No sugar at the top and you could only taste a drop of don Julio in it. Smh. (Which was a 12 up charge.) So I mentioned it to our waiter (who was somewhat kind) he said ok I can bring you a cup of sugar🤦🏾♀️ so I said ok, he comes back with the sugar and I asked so how am I supposed to put the sugar on, he didnt know so he said. I can remake it for you. I said ok that's fine but can I just keep this one too and pay half of the price for the inconvenience? He came back and said No, but he can remake it. Cool. Then the food was brought to us. I ordered a soft corn shell and they brought me a hard corn shell. (Not a big deal, people make mistakes. My friend ordered jalapenos in her omelet instead they put mushrooms in it. (Which she's allergic to), Again we mentioned the issue to the waiter. He takes the food back to the back. Then Some guy in a black suit comes out (I wish I would've got his name) it may have been the owner. He has a nasty attitude and says we usually don't "modify orders but I will do this for you only once." Then he reads off everything that she wanted in the omelet for clarification cool. We agreed yes that's what we wanted in the omelet. Then I asked how is it being modified if you guys messed up our order. He just walks away. Smh. So he personally brings the second omelet. (Now this one looks completely different from the first, like they just through it together, one piece of bacon was thrown on it and chopped into 4 pieces. ( We ordered and paid for extra bacon, the cheese wasn't melted and this time there was still no jalapenos nor onions 😩.My friend asked him for plastic wear just to look inside of the omelet like we were told to see the jalapenos and onions🤦🏾♀️( we don't use resteraunt utensils) he replies. "We don't have any" then says ok "wait" ! Wow. 🤦🏾♀️ He comes back with the fork. Instead of handing it to her. He tosses it at her. So she looks inside of the omelet (while he hovers over her food. ) still no jalapenos no onions and we were also told the extra bacon was inside of the omelet. That was a lie . At this point she didnt even want the omelet anymore. This guy starts yelling saying he's not going to "modify" the food anymore and that we still have to pay for it even though they got the order wrong AGAIN! I simply stated to him that it needs to be taken off of the bill because it's not our fault that the order was wrong for a second time smh. I also made him aware of his rudeness and with us being paid customers that we should be treated better. He just stands there and looks at me. I asked for the bill at this point I lost my appetite as well. (Meanwhile the first margarita was still sitting at the bar) smh so instead of letting me pay half price for it he'd rather throw it away. That alone showed me what type of character that man has smh. Anyways I get the bill and see that they charged me for the hard shell taco too 😭🤦🏾♀️. Longer story shorter..I just paid the bill and left. Good food terrible customer service. I will never eat there again. They definitely do not value their customers....
Read moreSince being back in the Iowa QCA, I really like many of the businesses along the Riverfront or close by. This includes those in downtown Bettendorf, the Freight House Farmer's Market area along Davenport, and locations in Moline and Rock Island. This particular area that this D'Lua occupies is pretty unfamiliar to me, but I like the Bettendorf location and wanted to try this one for breakfast today.
The building looks small on the outside - that impression stayed with me as I entered, as well. It's not claustrophobic for me by any means, but rather a bit cozy, even warmer than I would have thought for how cold it was outside today.
At any rate, after a brief wait at the front I got seated at a booth in the corner of the main dining area. I chatted with the waitress a little bit, who enthusiastically recommended a few dishes from the menu. I ended up ordering the chorizo omelette and sat back with my River City Reader to wait for my food.
The visual appearance of the dining area in D'Lua is clean and unique. The pointed frame of the ceiling is visible, as well as the dark stained wood throughout the ceiling and the exposed cylindrical HVAC ductwork. Lighting is supplied between the many windows and suspended fixtures that appear to be made of some old repurposed cans or other storage containers, all of which appear to have some sort of incandescent lighting or approximation thereof. The walls along the periphery of the dining area also contain what appears to be repurposed corrugated steel of some sort. It's a neat look - clearly the place has been redone recently but still looks established and aged.
The chorizo omelette was pretty great. I was a little bummed to have not ordered toast with it (I usually get that with eggs of any type) but it was great without them. The eggs were fluffy, the chorizo provided a great spiciness (not hot, just flavorful) and the potatoes were well cooked. All in all, a great way to start a Saturday.
The only drawback to this location is the ambient noise level. This is a general problem for spaces that don't contain a drop ceiling or other sound dampening, and it was present here. Everything just sort of reverberates, leading to people talking louder and resulting in a cacophonous feed back loop or sorts. It bordered on the uncomfortable for me, personally.
All things considered, I'd come back for a return visit for breakfast on the outdoor patio at a future date. D'Lua does great food, and they have a great location in this space right by the Riverfront. Thanks for the great...
Read moreHad date night here, first time visiting and probably the last. Let me refine the "fusion" description: this is a Mexican restaurant with a menu and atmosphere designed for gringos and basic palettes -this is Midwest-ixcan, think Taco Johns. I ordered the steak and mushrooms which came with rice and beans. The steak was overcooked and chewy, mushrooms and onions were sparse and the plate was LOADED with salty queso co-mingled with meat grease. The refried beans had no taste, same with the rice, the tortillas were wrapped in foil and placed on top of the entree which left the foil covered in queso as well. My partner had a 3-piece combination, said the chorizo and potatoes were "meh" and the beef was acceptable, we both agreed the rice and beans were paltry. Neither of us finished our entrees or took leftovers. I see this place being a banger for people who think bell peppers are spicy and Coronas are exotic. The booths were pretty uncomfortable also, my cheeks were aching by the time the food came. I had a Genuine Margarita which I enjoyed for its tartness but it wasn't worth $12. I diverged from my favorite Mexican joint (Costa Del Mar), fooled around and found out. *I will say our waitress was a lovely young lady who took care of us regardless of the quality of our meal, she was a real one and...
