We were pleasantly surprised with this restaurant.
After a not so great traveling experience to get to Turner Falls, we needed to find a place for dinner. El Agave was close but we were concerned about Mexican food in Oklahoma. Boy, were we wrong.
The menu was overwhelming. Five or six pages of "we can pretty much make anything you want so we listed it all" took a while to read through. But while we did, we were served drinks and delicious chips and salsa. I ordered the El Alambre for my entree which was beef, chicken, shrimp, and bacon covered in cheese over a bed of grilled peppers and onions. Fresh tortillas, rice, and beans came on the side. The portion was huge, the food was served steaming hot, and everything was seasoned perfectly. My husband ordered the Pollo Vallarta and my son had steak and potatoes. Everything was great.
The only slight hiccup was with communication. Our server was super attentive but did not speak a whole lot of English. Don't get me wrong, this is not a reason to skip the restaurant. A little patience, a lot of hand signals, and a couple of laughs on both sides made the lack of communication just a small blip.
We will definitely go back when in...
Read moreGood food, on-street parking but not a problem. I have liked this restaurant but the last two visits we had a waiter who was very hard to understand. I asked about the Margaritas listed on the front placard that said $8.99 or $10.99. But the waiter could not explain except that that was for strawberry? I ordered just the regular on the rocks original Margarita. On the menu that is $6.99. While waiting for the check, the waiter just asked if we were paying cash or card. He did not give us an itemized bill or print out or a receipt. My husband paid by card and didn't question the amount. We needed to leave, but I'm pretty sure he charged me at least $9. I will not get a margarita there again because it tasted weak, like just mix. There's no bartender or...
Read moreTwo things make or break a Mexican restaurant IMO. 1) the chips /salsa /cheese 2) rice and beans. Chips are trash, salsa is a 6.5 /10, beans are average, rice is really good.
Service was below average. I was the only customer when I first walked in. Took a solid 5 min before one of the 8 guys standing around noticed.
Took another, nearly 10 from the time I put the menu down until someone returned to take my order.
Check out took another 5 before someone came up. By that time two other tables walked in.
The atmosphere was terrible. Sports on medium volume, Mexican music kinda over powering that, and a soap opera on the TV above me. It was a nightmare of noise.
Like anywhere, I'll give it another shot and update...
